Fishing Report:
Since Tog season is open ttill the end of the month in New Jersey, Cliff and I decided to check out the canal for some tog. We had a good day totaling 40 throwback tog, a winter flounder, and the take-home, surprise catch of the day, this 13 inch kingfish (which through this site I learned is also called a mullet). Don't usually catch these until the water warms up in the summer, so this caught me by surprise when I reeled this up! Tight lines all!

Cliff and I hit up the canal again today. Much better day than the other day as we fished 5 hours from day break till about 11. We fished most of the incoming tide and a bit of the outgoing, catching a total of 42 tog. We had 4 fished just missed being keepers around 14.75 and I caught my personal best pictured above at 17.5 inches and 3.31 pounds for the only keeper of the day.

Fishing Report:
Fished off my parents dock tonight. We have a fish light off of it. The stripers seemed to have moved out, but the light and lagoon in general was loaded with these guys. I caught a total of 6 in about an hour, keeping these three. The big one was 12.5 inches and 1.2 pounds. a nice little chunker I must admit, especially off the dock.

Fishing Report:
Cliff, Cliff, and I fished daybreak to about 9am on Sunday. It was a slow day fish wise (probably because of the boat parade that took place with all the boats heading out for stripers), as we only landed 15 fish between the three of us. But we did manage two keepers. Cliff managed a keeper just over 15 inches and my keeper was 16 inches.

Started off fishing the inlet the bite wasn’t happening. Moved to me spot at the canal. Tide was just about high slack. Had a nice bite through the rest of the tide and through the slack. Bite backed off once the tide turned.

Fishing Report:
First time that I hit the canal this fall. Bite was picky as they’d bite for 10-15 minutes then stop for the same length of time. My son did catch a 16” keeper on a jig. Fished from high water slack into the first half of the out going tide.

Fishing Report:
Wasn’t sure what to expect after a week of rain and east wind. Water wasn’t as dirty as I had anticipated. Arrived for the last 2.5 hours of the incoming tide and left and hour into the outgoing. Had my first bite in @15-20 minutes and knew it was a good one. The result was this #5.41 24.5” fluke. Bite wasn’t as fast as my last few trips here but I did manage to catch 4 more (although no more keepers). Saw one other keeper caught and a good amount of shorts.

One short of a two man limit. Started off looking for mahi but after checking the range buoy and pot hopping we didn’t see any signs we switched gears and dropped bucktails for fluke. Found a nice patch but couldn’t put that last one in the boat before the southeast wind kicked up creating a 2+ knot drift. Did catch and release a nice out of season sea bass. Saw several pods of dolphins when we broke the inlet and also came across a 6’+ blacktop or spinner shark later in the day.

Fishing Report:
Enjoyable and fish filled day with Jason at the Inlet. I caught @15 fluke and one banded rudder fish. Jason had a smorgasbord with sea bass, a banded rudder fish, one big ugly star gazer, a nice snapper blue and some short fluke. He topped off his catch with this nice 22”+ fluke.

Couple of side notes; #1 we were there when they brought in the injured crew men from the sand dredging barge. Jason got a look at the injured and said one looked in bad shape., #2 We noticed a diver working east of us (nothing unusual about that)- however as time went on he not only worked his way down towards us but further off the wall until he was a good 30 feet out. To top it off, his dive flag got wet so any and all boats would have a difficult time in spotting. Anyone who knows the inlet knows that bend by the monument where both party boats and commercial boats exit and enter- well he was right in the middle. He got lucky that none of those came through, although a jet ski did run over his dive line that connected him to his dive buoy. Not only did he turn the bite off for those he was in front of (he was spear fishing). He became very confrontational when we informed him of the danger he was in and how he was effecting those of us who were fishing . I finally flagged down a passing state police boat who told him he was a dumb shit before telling him to either get out of the water or go closer to the wall. Darwinism.9/3/18.

Fishing Report:
Timed my arrival to coincide with last 90 minutes of the incoming tide and fished through the first two hours of the outgoing. I noticed this seem to be when I had the best action there this summer-especially on the incoming where I found a small tip that forms where the fluke stack up. Ended up catching 12 fluke to 17”s but also all very chunky. In addition, I landed two over grown snappers and a few pin sea bass. Tons of bait being flushed out on the outgoing.

Cliff and I fished the canal for about 4 hours from 6:15-10:15am. We only managed 16 total tog, which is a very slow day for us there. We think it was because the water temp was up to 75 degrees today from all the warm weather. Cliff did manage the first keeper since tautog season reopened. A nice 16 inch fish pictured above.

Cliff and I fished the canal today. Boat traffic was heavy, but we still had a good day. We fished most of the incoming tide and a little of the outgoing and managed 65 tautog and 1 schoolie bass all on green crab. All throwbacks today, we had four over 14 inches, but under 15.

One out of the 13 (all shorts but still fun) I caught earlier today. Fished from low water slack into the first 4 hours of the incoming tide. I scouted the area earlier in the week and noticed a nice little back eddy and rip line forms on the incoming with a nice color change. Fluke were right where they were supposed to be. All caught on live killies.

Since Tautog reopened on the 1st, Cliff and I decided to try out the canal today before it rained. We stuck it out through the first bad patch of rain and luckily left right before it got real bad. We fished all of the outgoing tide from 5:30am till about 11 landing 42 throwback Tautog. Not a bad day, especially since we usually do better with the incoming tide. A few oyster crackers and a sea bass we're also caught. A guy across the canal also hooked into what looked like a small bass.
