Went fishing with my boy @jimmy at loch raven. It was his first time on the Jessie Ann and he was slaying the pikerel. We found some respectable bass in the trees. This one fell for the senko.

Got this fatty on a trip to liberty reservoir this week with the Jessie anne. Most fish were caught deeeeeep that day. This one was in a tree and he nearly wrapped me up in the branches. I had to get out of the boat to land him.

My wonderful wife Jessie came out and surf fished for a bit on our honeymoon. We got this little guy. I think it's a sand shark. He was really docile and calm.
Surf fishing is not my strong suite. However, I love it all.
Any tips on surf fishing this time of year. Come on @shaka-antoine. I know surf fishing is your thing right. You always get those biguns. In the surf.
Any ideas?

First bass as a married man. Caught this girl on the greenish brown strike king baby craw. Texas rig weedless. Another one was following her around while I was trying to land her.
She had some cool spots on her tail and head that reminded me of another one I caught recently. Could it be the same fish maybe? It's possible.
I safely released her to go and do bass stuff with her buddies. And to grow.

This picture is from may 8th of this year. I've been fishing liberty reservoir with the Jessie ann. Liberty is totally new to me and I had never fished there before this season. I have been very impressed with the lack of litter and trash. It gives me hope that some people still care enough about or world to pack it in and pack it out.
We fished beds and lay downs for most of the day, using soft plastic flukes. Many of the bass we could actually see, which was really fun. It messes with your head when you acually see the bass inhale your lure. Sometimes you end up pulling the lure away from the fish if you don't time it right.
This guy was caught on a green and white fluke weightless. Sort of weaving it in and along the deeper part of a huge tree in about 8 feet of water. Letting it sink was the key as he hit it on the fall.
Most of the bass are in post spawn now and are going deep. I will probably fish for crappie and stuff for the next few weeks. Then it's time to learn how to use my fish finder to target the bass in deep off shore structure. This season will be the first time I've ever had one. Can't wait to learn new tricks.
I have a hummingbird ds 7 GPS sonar with lake maps. No side view for now but that's okay. Any body who has a hummingbird that has some tips let me know.

This is my first fish from the jessie ann 1648 mv alumacraft jon boat. We found a really nice cove that opened up into a steep drop off. It was very clear that day at lake redman, and i could see several dark shadoes crusing in about 4 feet of water. This one was guarding a nest on the gravely section of the cove.
I backed off about 30 feet as i was sure they had spotted me. I picked up a rod with a heavier jig with a grey grub tail and made several casts to the gravel area. I let the jig sit on the bottom for about 10 seconds and wham! she wacked it! Pulling drag and jumping like a true bronzeback. full of power and muscle.
After several minutes of playing the fish. I safely released her.

I've heard they eat them in other countries. Anyone ever tried?

First bass of the season at my favorite pond. Fishing the drop off from shallow to deep with a small spinner. It was very cold that day. The day before saw a high of 60 do that probably helped wake this guy up. March 1 I think. Pretty early for this pond.

Location:Morgan Run MD

Went to Morgan run with my ultra light to fish one of my favorite bends. It has a tiny stream flowing into it on the outside of the bend. Usually get a few fish there depending on the season. No action all through the bend.
I switched to a small soft plastic white grub tail 1 inch. 1 16 ounce jig head. Bouncing the lure along the bottom with little movement got this beautiful wild brown to strike. My reel was screaming as I ran downstream with him as he was in control of my little ultra light. He went for a log jam and I hesitantly tightened my drag one click, praying that he wouldn't break off. He tired out and came to the bank, only to take 4 more nice runs downstream testing the limit of my rod.
I forgot my net at home so I was extremely careful releasing and reviving this guy. So grateful to have so many great fisheries within an hour of me.

I guess I need to break down and buy myself a trout net, The one I've build just needs to be netted, which is turning out to be a lot more complicated than building the frame :(

This time of year I pretty much stick to fishing for wild brown trout on the upper gunpowder river in Parkton md. For those of you who are not familiar with md, the gunpowder river is a tailwater, which means that it flows out of a reservoir or lake. In this case prettyboy reservoir. The coldwater release policy ensures that the trout have cold clean water to keep them happy year round, which is good. This time of year they are very lethargic and its tough to get em interested. I got out last weekend with the intention of swinging streamers with my 5 weight. Unfortunately I dont think my streamer was getting down deep enough. I was fishing an area with large boulders and deeper holes. This guy was hanging out in front of the biggest boulder in 3 feet of water. I switched to my spinning rod and was drifting this 1/8 ounce jig on a downstream drift. Trying to bounce it off of each boulder. The boulder created a large area of slack water directly in front of it and thats were he wacked it. That is actually a crappie magnet brand soft plastic. Sometimes the browns really like em though and that day was no exception. Not a big fish, but I was extremely grateful to catch and release this beautiful little guy. Probably my last fish until April. Then its bass time.

I got to fish for a couple hours at a farm pond yesterday. It was my birthday so I really wanted to land some nice bass. I must have been off my game because I lost 2 nice fish when they jumped. Maybe the hook was dull. I don't know. The bite turned on around 6 pm and I landed this guy on a soft plastic crawfish.

My first bass on a top water this spring. They seem to use the slop around the edges where the wind swept it for cover. Maybe a quality weed less frog would work better.

My birthday is this week and I don't usually expect much since I'm 32 years old and birthdays aren't a big deal for me. I guess my mom read my mind because she bought me a beautiful quantum escalade spinning reel. This reel is perfect. The action is extremely smooth and it feels like a dream. The drag settings are also cool because they are very fine. One click on the drag is like a half click on my other rods. I like that. Definitely worth the money if any of you are trying to upgrade your light spinning set up. For monofilament its rated for 6 pound 8 pound and 10 line. 70 bucks ouch. Thanks mom.
Anyway, I went to my favorite farm pond at 7 am this week and tried to through some new crank baits I had. The algae issue is improving but it still makes it difficult to throw crank baits as they get hung up in the slop. I switched to some dream shots rigged weed less with a eighth ounce slip sinker. The dream shots are a Kevin Vann damn thing. Strike king makes them. A lot of there soft plastics are way to big and crazy looking for fishing around here if you ask me. However the dream shots are right on for targeting bass in the Maryland area. Low profile shit. The banks seem to be the ticket right now in the later part of may. I got this guy right in front of a pile of wood on the edge of some algae. The algae and lily pads are tough but they definitely hold big fish. I need to learn more about mat punching.

I went to loch raven again this week. I caught a lot of pickerel casting to wood along the banks. They are really fun to catch but I really wanted to dry off some bass.
I decided to fish a Texas rig with a soft plastic crawfish rigged weedless. I am learning more about fishing points for bass. I managed to land this smaller bass. I caught three others as well but they were smaller. Hopefully next time I can get some real butterballs.

I fished Morgan run this week with my 5wt. fly rod. I was overcome with joy when I realized I had successfully repaired my new hand me down waders. They were given to me by my buddy and needed a few holes patched up. I was so thankful because my old pair was toast. Thanks for the Waders Weare.
I saw some rising fish in the morning, but wasn't able to connect with any on the dry flies I had with me. I switched to a brown bead head streamer and began working the riffles at the tail end of a medium sized pool. After a few minutes I landed and safely released this feisty wild brown.
