Location:Loch Raven Reservoir MD

Species:Bluegill

I was able to get out this afternoon for a couple of hours and headed over to the lake near my house to go pan fishing. I was looking for Crappie and Yellow Perch and as usual I skunked on them.

I was using the my bobber and feather fly technique on my trusty 4'6" rod with a lightweight reel. I like the short rod when fishing overfished lakes such as Loch Raven since I go out of my way to find structure in the water that is protected by structure on the land. I like to claw my way in between thorn bushes, brush and trees to find a promising spot that requires a difficult cast. In these situations the short rod is a necessity.

I had a couple of small bites during the afternoon but couldn't hook up. As evening fell, the nibbles picked up but I could tell I was working with some really small fish. I had about 5 "just one more casts" before I finally was able to land this little guy who helped my beat the skunk.
