Location:Oriental NC

Species:Drum, Red

After 2 days of skunking down in Oriental, I finally landed my first puppy drum for the table. I've only have an hour or so per day so for fishing, so I've been fishing the boat launch down the street from my house. I've done well there in the past with Speckled trout and an occasional sub-legal puppy.

This dock is on the site of an old lumber mill and the bottom is paved with old boards. Great structure for fish as well as snagging tackle. This spot had really helped my working on my jigging technique around structure but for the last couple of days I've been using a popping cork and my goto white gulp swimming mullet since I was short on time and any snag would waste precious time.

This evening on a walk with my wife down to the dock, the spot that had skunked my for the past two days that "look" that beckoned me to try it yet again. I had planned to try some other spots after our walk, but I was I drawn back to the same old spot. The third time was the charm1

About Jimmy
1974 Starcraft Supersport
My fishing boat Litttle Blue is a 1974 Starcraft Supersport. She is well past her prime but here's a photo of one in great shape.
Tarpon 10
Wilderness Systems
My current fishing kayak is a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 100. I'm thinking about upgrading to a NuCanoe Frontier or Jackson Coosa.
Swimming Mullet
Gulp Swimming Mullets are my goto bait for most situations.
Heavier Rattletraps are still one of my favorite lures for stripers.
Green with Black Spots
I've been throwing Jitterbugs for Bass since the 1970's and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
Tierra 1500
The Team Daiwa Tierra 1500 reel is one of my favorites, I've got 4 or 5 of them at this point. Too bad they've been discontinued.
My primary target is Striped Bass in the 20 - 24 inch range. Here's a big one I caught one trophy season on the Chesapeake
The Daiwa Procyon 1500 with a 6:1 gear ratio is my go to reel for pulling crank baits in fast moving water.
