Species:Bass, Striped

This would have been a nice white perch! I found myself this morning hoping good tugs were white perch rather than my usual target of stripers.

I was targeting white perch since we recently bought a pellet grill and I've been interested in smoking pan fish for sometime.

I knew Man-O-War shoal at the mouth of the Patapsco river was a good place to fish for white perch but I had forgotten that I needed to get a Grapnel anchor to set a hook on the oyster bar.

When I first arrived I got lucky and my Dansforth anchor stuck right on the edge of the shoal. After try several options, I started getting hits on my Silver Buddy lure. The first fish was far from huge but large enough for me to try and smoke.

The fish where few, far between and small, so I decided to make a move which was a mistake. I couldn't get the anchor to stick again and since I knew the the fish were hanging on the steep slopes at the edge of the shoal, I realized I needed a plan B.

I headed back to my usual fishing grounds hoping to get a couple more perch for my smoker. No such luck, I ended the day with one medium white perch to smoke.

I'll post the details of my first attempt at smoking on "The Dock" under Community->The Galley later this week.

I've been throwing Jitterbugs for Bass since the 1970's and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
Tierra 1500
The Team Daiwa Tierra 1500 reel is one of my favorites, I've got 4 or 5 of them at this point. Too bad they've been discontinued.
My primary target is Striped Bass in the 20 - 24 inch range. Here's a big one I caught one trophy season on the Chesapeake
The Daiwa Procyon 1500 with a 6:1 gear ratio is my go to reel for pulling crank baits in fast moving water.
