Location:Oriental NC

Species:Drum, Red

I really wanted to find some speckled trout on my last fish of Oriental NC this winter. I had two days of warm sunny weather so I headed way up a local creek to a hole I know where they sometimes stack up this time of year.

When I got to my spot the water temperature was around 52 degrees, so I was thinking I would find a trout or two. I ran the center of the creek with my boat, casting both sides and the middle with my #gulpswimmingmullet. Nothing, not even a tap.

I could see a spot up the creek where I knew of a submerged tree. I told myself, if there's a fish here today, that's where he's going to be. When I finally got there, on the 4th cast this puppy hit me hard. Lucky for him I don't like to eat redfish, so he was safely released.
