Location:Madison CT

Species:Bass, Striped

My friend Robbie Cozean holds a nice striper he caught fishing Long Island Sound. My late brother-in-law and I took him fishing for blues and stripers and caught both on this outing by casting poppers in the rips off Long Island.

Location:Norway

Species:Salmon, Atlantic

My first atlantic salmon from Norway. I think it was surprisingly easy, or at least much easier than I thought it would be, to learn how to cast with a two-handed rod. I'm not saying I'm good at it, but I could get the fly into the water where a fish could eat. This beauty came from my stay at the Norwegian Flyfishers Club.

Species:Bonefish

The Florida Keys are full of good places to fish. I like the upper keys, where you have the choice of fishing the Atlantic Ocean side, or heading into the maze of keys that makes up Florida Bay. This was an oceanside bone that my friend Mike Myatt of the IGFA stalked under difficult conditions. Nice job, Mikey!

Jacks put up a good fight on any tackle. On a fly rod, they will kick your ass! This one came from one of my favorite spots on the intercoastal waterway.

Fish always look bigger when they're caught in small water. This spring creek in Colorado gives up some monster browns.

Location:Kremmling CO

Species:Trout, Rainbow

My friend Marty Cecil landed this beautiful rainbow while nymphing on the Blue River. Tailwaters fish well all year round, and if you don't mind breaking the ice from your guides, wading through snowdrifts, and sliding around on bank ice, you can have a pretty good time. While the sun was above the horizon, the fishing was good and we landed a bunch of mostly rainbows and cutbows during the afternoon; when the sun disappeared and the temperature began to drop, everything including the fishing froze solid.

When the sun is out in Colorado winter, the fishing can turn on. Sure, it's not quite the same as wet wading in the summer, but a guy's got to get his fishing fix, right?

There are some days when you think you should just stay in bed, or maybe sip coffee in front of a roaring fire. That's what a wise man, or even an above average smart man might do. However, all fishermen have a part of their brain that tells them if they fish in bad weather, when other anglers stay home, perhaps, just perhaps, the fish gods will smile. Well, this was just such a day, and the only thing crazier than me fishing was the fact that I talked my friend Marcelo into fishing with me. And you can see the result. Hmmmm.....maybe if the weather was even worse, I would catch an even larger brown....

I just noticed that I have a tube of dry fly floatant hanging from my rain jacket. What was I possibly thinking????

Location:Boca Grande FL

Species:Tarpon

Staked up on the flats off Boca Grande a couple years ago, we were casting at passing tarpon and I hooked this 80 lb. fish. It jumped at least a half dozen times before coming to the boat. The guide touched the leader and it was gone, so this was about as close as I got. What a great fight!

Species:Trout, Brown

April's trip to Rio Manso Lodge with my friend Mike Shea was a visit to one of the legendary fishing destinations of the world. We caught brown, rainbow and brook trout every day, surrounded by the fall beauty of the Andes Mountains. Mike caught this brown on one of our river floats, stripping a streamer in a back channel of the Manso River. If you ever want to visit a place with big trout and few people, Patagonia should be on your bucket list.

This beautiful brown came right at dusk during the Hendrickson hatch. If you are patient and persistant, there are some big browns in the Battenkill River. They aren't easy to catch, but the Hendrickson hatch is one time during the year when finding and catching them is just a little bit easier.

Species:Tuna, False Albacore

Fishing at Great Point in September was good for false albacore. This specie is a small rocket ship that takes off when hooked. It always surprises me when I finally land one of these muscle boys because they are always smaller than they feel. This fish was about 8 pounds - what would a 20 pounder feel like?

Caught this 5 pound brook trout on my recent December trip to Rio Manso Lodge in Patagonia. Trout might not be native to this part of the world, but they sure have thrived in Argentina.
