Got this nice one in a farm pond. Nothing like a little early spring bass fishing in a Jon boat!

This was in the can river. Me and Evan croaker fishing and getting a few perch too. As you can see by my other stories, taking your kids fishing is about the best thing you can do for them. I remember the Southern Sportsman TV show and his motto was "Do yourself a favor, take a kid fishing". It's mine too.

Species:Spadefish

This is Evan with his first ever spadefish from a couple seasons ago. We had been seeing them around the pilings at the CBBT and not tried for them yet. He baited up a hook with a bit of clam and floated it back while we were still working on flounder. He got the first one on the boat and had a heck of a fight. These little fish are amazing fighters and GREAT table fare!. The ATTACHED VIDEO is from this past summer when we finally went after them specifically. This will be a regular trip or two every year from now on!

Going back a bit. This same pond is now producing bigger crappie. We started keeping EVERYTHING we caught and many days could bring in 50+ crappie. The Crappie killer rig shown in the VIDEO ATTACHED is what I has just started using. Thinning out the population really made a difference over a few years.

Reminiscing about Spanish fishing. Me and Evan killed them. We were out with a bunch of other folks off of Windmill bar but found a great school about 500 yards from everyone else. We kept hitting them and running only 2 lines almost limited out! Action was hot and fast with a lot of doubles and I can't tell you how many got off. It was a great day!

This is Jim and his tiny Spanish mac. We actually had a good day this summer around Mobjack bay. Got almost a limit of spanish for the three of us. BONUS POST: You ever fish with a guy that always seems to set the hook towards you? Check out the funny clip of what happen this spring while we're crappy fishing! This sucker has hit me more times than I'll admit.

This simple double jig rig will fill up a cooler in no time. This was our first trip of the year this past spring to the eastern shore of the Chesapeake bay near the Bay Bridge tunnel. Check the video out for the rig, and you can check the other post I have up on here for a video of catching them!

Me and the "Fish Hard" team start every year crappie fishing at a little lake in Tappahannock. I developed the Crappie Killer rig and it just tears them up with a jig/minnow combination. I posted the video to show you how to tie this rig for yourself. They are cheap and easy and a great thing to do when you are not fishing. We probably got around 100 in a couple trips out there last spring and we are looking forward to this coming spring too!

If you watch the video in youtube there is even links to the jigs used, etc.

Evan got into a couple HUGE STINGRAYS while we were flounder fishing near the CBBT (Chesapeke Bay Bridge tunnel) These powerful animals were hooked on small jig rigs with a bass size rod and Evan did a masterful job in fighting them. You HAVE to see the video to appreciate the size of these things. Compare them to us for size and remember that they are further away. the fist one was about 8' tip to tip the other over 6'! This is also great training for when you hook that bull red drum or hog rockfish and have to know how fight big critters on light tackle!

We got these and several other nice Rockfish (That's what we call them in VA) on a spring Rockfish trip to the lower Potomac River this past spring. Trolling an 8 rod spread got us plenty of action and I got some really great video too! (Check out the link) These were ocean going rockfish migrating through and the fight was unreal! You'll see several get to the boat and take off again on another run!

We hit the CBBT (Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel) and got into the flounder. This was in June of 2015. This video has some rotten sound but great footage. (I now have a better mic!) In the video below I'll show you how to jig them up and on another video on my YouTube channel I'll even show you how we make the rig we use. We got 116 keeper last year for 5 of us! Most of the video is at the high rise. This was one of the "Limit" days. Flounder is one of our favorite fish and we are very good filling coolers with them.

My son Evan and I got into spadefish this summer at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. We got our limit very quick and then remembered to turn on the go pro and caught the action to share. We probably got 30 or 40 of them total. These little 2 and 3 pounders are a GREAT fight on light tackle. We used clams and bottom rigs suspended about 10' down. The video link is below.
