The Quest for Striper and Blues... https://youtu.be/eL5Eyih37Ws

This was a trip from 2013 that my Dad, youngest brother Denel and I set out to catch Striper and Blues. My Dad has a habit of renting a skiff the first week of September each year. It's something he has always done to visit one of his "Honey Hole's" on the Sound. Dad said look as long as the blues are in the area we should catch them. Unfortunately all we caught that day were these Porgy's. I'm not too fond of the taste of Porgy but these that we caught in this location were really good. They didn't taste like any of the other Porgy's I've caught else wear.

When Dad first told me about this trip (as we were just packing our gear away from fishing that day) I recalled my last experience as a young boy fishing with him, and my brother Igwe whom is four years older than I. All I could think of was the fear of tipping over each time a boat would pass us or the rollers that frequently rolled the skiff in was that kept me thinking more about tipping over than catching a fish. I really had to think about putting myself in that situation once more. I told Dad I'll think about it and get back to him...I needed to build up the courage to get on a skiff again.

I gave the "skiff trip" some thought and decided to give it a shot. That year (2013) I made it up in my mind that I was going to pick up fishing again after about a 10 year "sabbatical" so to speak. So we get to Jacks about an hour before they open and the line almost made us rethink today’s trip. Dad, Denel and I wanted to fish so we waited. By the time we got to Dads honey hole a skiff was sitting right on top of the spot Dad was so fond of. We are not into crowding other fishermen so we moved on...Had to choose between the light house to our east and the one to the south west. We went east.

At the end of the day we should've went south west because we never found the Stripers or Blues we came for in the first place. All in all we still had a blast on the water. I was just speaking to Dad today about when are we planning to rent the skiff this season...Dad said right away yeah this time we will go to the other light house for sure. I can't wait for that trip because I have a few knew tricks and gear I would love to land some Stripers and Blues with. Catch'em up!
