Got off work, I had an hour to kill so I stopped at a boat ramp on the Elk River which feeds wheeler lake/ Tennessee River. The Elk is known for excellent bow fishing and year round large mouth bass. I figured I would come up empty handed or at best with a few small grass pigs (large mouth bass). After about 20mins of throwing a 2-4 ft swimming crank bait I get nailed out of no where. Rod bows and drag is slipping. I get what I think is a 4-5 lb large mouth and to my surprise it is a 2 lb Hybrid stripe bass. The Elk river is a very unusual place for strip to run, but they have followed large schools of bait fish in off the Tennessee river this year. Very spirited hard fighting fish and probably one of the prettiest fish you can pull out of Alabama water!
Stay safe....and keep your line tight.
