Fishing Report:
And you guys were expecting a photo of a Striper! Well I didn't catch one. Others on the boat did so we completed the Slam for the boat but no-one person got it himself. It turns out that running around the lake at high speed with no windshield in January is hard on a person's face. McCotter's Lake Anna Guide Service has thought of that and provides these "Face Savers" so you can keep your head up and eyes open while the boat moves around. They don't come with any "Power Ranger" type enhancement of your fishing prowess (or maybe they do - Who really knows?) but they do make the day more enjoyable.

Fishing Report:
A Christmas Catch

‘Twas the morning of Christmas and out on the lake
Not a fisher was stirring, not a fish made a break
The rods were all stacked on the porch by my chair
Waiting for spring to come fill the air
The fish were swimming down deep in their redds
With dreams of warm currents abound in their heads
My wife in her slippers and I in my shoes
Had just rose from breakfast and reading the news
The weather looked grand even out on the water
So we said - take a chance! Why not? No matter.
Away to the dock we flew in a flash
Barely taking the time to collect all our stash
Of tackle packed ‘round the house and the deck
Have we got it all? If not, what the heck!
Once out on the lake we prepared our gear
Trolling and casting and even a spear
For one never knows what lurks ‘neath the deck
The stories I’ve heard can shiver my neck
There are massive catfish and bass lunkers alright
And if you are careful you can get one to bite
Throw crankbaits! Now Dropshots! Now Texas rigged frogs!
On Fly rods! On Spinners! to docks and to logs!
To the base of the dock, to the rocks! to the fall!
Now cast away! Cast away, cast away all!
We thrashed the calm waters with tackle galore
But all that we caught was a bit of a snore
Until one dropshot fell upon Lunker Lou
The most famous fish the world ever knew
Some say he’s a myth and some say its true
I’m here to tell you what we went through
I felt weight seize on my lure, I lowered the rod
The line played out, to my wife I did nod
‘Tis a big one I said and I set the hook deep
Lunker Lou took off, his freedom to keep
The line was a singing as it flew off the reel
I tightened the drag and I tried to feel
What kind of fish is this? A bass or a cat?
I’d never known any to fight quite like that!
He tired and turned and I reeled in the slack
He rose and he dove as he made his way back
He pulled and he ran, I reeled and I played
He jumped and he thrashed but that hook it stayed
Until finally I had him alongside my boat
A fish for the ages, a catch for to gloat
He was long, he was fat, he was strong, he was clean
‘twas the most glorious fish that I’d ever seen
He barely did fit in the net that I had
I hauled him aboard and thought about Dad
We took his picture and removed the lure
Weighed him and measured him, twice to be sure
A world record fish, they’d want proof, no doubt
But I lowered the net and let him slip out
He flipped his huge tail and splashed us both cold
To the depths he returned with a swirl great and bold
And I swear that I heard ‘fore he dove to his hatch -
“Merry Christmas to all and to all a good catch!”

Fishing Report:
@lipless-crankster demonstrates his #fishhunter fishfinder with its smart phone display. Meanwhile straight off the bow of #knotatwork (visible above LC's rod) our Mark 1 Ears and Mark 1 Eyeballs find an Agrafish busting the surface with a thundering whack. What is an #agrafish you might ask? They are a species of fish defined by the behavior of jumping and splashing and otherwise just aggravating you while you wash all your favorite baits with no results. @jimmy - we need a new species on the list.
