Fishing Report:
Ran into Capt. Blaq Sparrow tonight on the Misty Morn. As soon as he walked on the boat, I said to myself that I know him from somewhere and then when I saw his shirt it clicked. Fishing was slow tonight as only 5 keepers were boated. I had 2 shorts and I believe the good Captain had 1 short

Fishing Report:
I attended the Saltwater Fishing Expo today and picked up a new Seigler Reel, formerly Truth Reels, formerly Release. Name changes due to legal trademark stuff.

I purchased their newly released SGN (small game narrow) in left hand retrieve, it weighs in at only 10.95 oz and holds 375 yds of 30# braid with 30 lbs.of drag. The reel comes in a heavy canvas bag instead of a box, no manual, wrench, or oil included as with some other manufacturers, (some information is on their website), but it did come with a "show special " aluminum shot glass milled at their facility from excess stock.

The reel is 100% Made in the U.S.A. so it fits right in with my patriotic pride. I plan on giving this reel a through workout this season, throwing it at everything that swims under the boat, and will post an evaluation sometime in the future.

Adding 3-D eyes to some Jigheads. They were self stick, but I figure they might stay on a little bit longer with a drop of glue.

I plan on expanding my soft plastics skills this season, experimenting with some new and different methods and presentations on a variety of species. Nothing wrong with fishing metal or hard plastic, or even the old bait-n-wait method, or any combination of those, they all produce, just always up for trying new things.

Fishing Report:
Met Branden from Bust'em Baits today at the Berkley Striper Club's annual Fishing Flea Market. They offer a new, interesting and uniquely designed soft bait in various sizes and colors, that are full of fish attracting action. I had to purchase some and I'm looking forward to giving them a try.

He is based out of Maryland so, I had to mention Stackfish.com , and he had good things to say about Stackfish's own Jimmy, whom he said he met at a show sometime back.

He stated that they are trying to increase their territory, which is why they are up north on this 20 degree NJ day. As we spoke of fishing along the Outer Banks , where they say they catch alot of fish with their products, images of the NC Stackfish Crew popped into my head, along with memories of me fishing there, the windiest place I've ever fished. Amazing how fishing can connect people far and wide.

Fishing Report:
Attended the NJ DEP Press Conference this morning at Fisherman's Supply in Point Pleasant. Commissioner Bob Martin along with federal and state law makers, private and commercial captain's, and reprensitives from recreational fishing interests such as the Recreational Fishing Alliance, Jersey Coast Angler's Association, New Jersey Outdoor Alliance, New Jersey Federation of Sportsman's Clubs,United Boatsmen, and Save the Summer Flounder Fishery Fund, spoke about their official opposition and plans to fight the proposed federal changes / 49% reduction to the 2017 NJ Fluke Regulations by the ASMFC.

It was a cold, windy morning with about 200+ Fishermen, Captain's, Business Owners, and Press in attendance. This is a start, and I hope that we are sucessful in our fight to change the Federal Regulations, which want to give NJ Angler's a minimum size limit increase from 18" to 19" ( next door in Delaware Bay they have a 17" minimum size), a reduced bag limit from 5 fish to 2 fish, and only a 51 day long season. Nice to know that we have some amazing people on our side.

My arsenal of soft plastic rigs for spring 2017 Bass Season. I'm starting to do inventory now. Carolina, Texas, Drop shot,Stick baits, Lizards, Keitech etc. what's going to be the flavor this season? They got this new rig called the Neko Rig presentation. They say it's Goodbye to the Texas Rig. They said that about Sinko's & Culprit 10' worms. I'll try everything. 😜

Fishing Report:
I received my Stackfish Big Fish Story Contest prize on my doorstep the other day. It's a large Boone insulated fish bag, and I do mean large. 30" x 65" to be exact.

It's really going to come in handy aboard my boat. My large center fishbox is great for larger fish and it holds alot of them, but its not really insulated well. I have thought about a few different ways to go about adding insulation to it so that ice will last all day or over night on those really King trips. I've done the old trick of adding salt to the ice, it has even frozen some fish it got so cold, but the ice melts after a few hours. This bag fits great inside the fish box, insulation issue solved! It had a drain plug so I can just drain it into the fish box, and pump it out via the fish boxes macerator.

I'm going fishing Saturday morning, Fluke and a few Black Seabass are my targeted spicies, which I usually just put my keepers into my livewell , keeps them alive until I get home most times. I'm going to test out the Boone bag with a few bags of ice on the hot summer day and see how long it lasts. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks Jimmy and everyone at Stackfish.com for adding to my fishing addiction.

Fluke fishing in shark river and my buddy caught a really nice blackfish (tautog) but the season had just closed so back in the wash it went. Fought like hell. Good eating fish too. Wound up with nothing but short fluke on this trip but this was highlight of the day. This trip was back in May or June I believe.

While out on the boat, this little bird landed on the helm to take a break. Timing was perfect, I was at the helm, camera was within easy reach, and the wind was blowing the flag. He stayed about 5 minutes and went on his way.

When Bluefish Attack #1

We were live lining bunker and catching some Stripers when the Yellow Eyed Demons, Bluefish, joined the party at the Bunker Pod. Here is one of our baits that was attacked by a Bluefish, chopped off right up to the head by those razor sharp teeth. This shows why fishing bunker heads for Stripers is effective, it's a natural presentation. The Stripers stay lower in the water column and eat the scraps dropped by the Blues.
