While cast netting Mullet off of the beach at Island Beach State Park here in New Jersey, this small fish located below the Mullet in the photo came out of the net. I was unsure of what it was, so I released it after a few photos. Well I had forgotten about it until last week when I decided to get an official identification of it. Turns out it is a juvenile Florida Pompano, probably spawned at sea and rode some warm currents to the Jersey Shore, far north of its normal range, or could it signal a shift north due to rising ocean temperatures?
