Fishing Report:
My buddy Josh and partner in the jetski fishing game here in eastern Pa. we are fishing 4 days straight in a well growing local shad tournament off our jet skis. We have been telling the "shad crew" for months now that we were using the skis and they all laughed or thought we were crazy. I'll admit it is crazy because it's unconventional. Where there's a will there's a way, and we rigged out skis out with everything we need to anchor and fish in comfort. Many guys see us now and compliment our setups. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what way your fishing, from land, boat, yak, or jet ski, we all have the same common goal. Enjoy the sport, be safe and have a great day on the water. It sure beats a day at work! Here's to the 2017 Bi-State Shad fishing contest. Good luck and keep stacking!

Fishing Report:
Shad Story - Chapter 5. One of the big questions at Fletcher's right now is When are the American Shad going to really start running? I have no real idea what the difference is between a Hickory and an American Shad. I have read the descriptions of how they each fight, I had fought four Hickories before this one and I have seen multiple photos of each that really have not helped much. The Hickories had all fought along the surface, jumped and run and scrambled around like mad things until they got close to shore whereupon they just kind of gave up. This guy fought deep, pulled hard and only turned around when his only other choice was to come up. He fought all the way in and even after I had him on the rocks. He is photographed in this position because this is the only one I got in which he is laying still. 45 minutes had passed since my last catch.

So I am calling this an American Shad. If anyone thinks different - chime in. You can see what I caught him on still in his mouth.

Fishing Report:
This was a Shad I caught one night fishing with Kenny. It was the shock of the night for us both. Kenny was killing the bass on his needle fish, and everything I was throwing just wasn't working. Kenny let me use is second needlefish lure and I was retrieving it SLOW! Just as it got next to me I went to lift it out of the water to cast it back out and all I saw was a slash and the tail off a fish jump to catch the lure...it just about startled me to be honest. I took two photos and released it. That was just one more spectacular event of that night of fishing with Kenny. Catch'em up!

Fishing Report:
Schooled by my brother again Shad fishing on the Susky. This time it was 5-0 , but I think I may have figured out what's going on. I don't do that much Shad fishing so I just grab a couple of rigs that look like they may do the job and head out the door.

This time he was fishing a dart with a flutter spoon dropper on mono. I was fishing the same style dart with another dart as the dropper on braid (no leader). He was getting fish on the dart as well as the spoon. I think I may have had one hit all evening on my rigs.

Conventional wisdom says that Shad are not leader shy but I'm not so sure. My brother was forthcoming with the technique he was using and I'm usually a pretty quick study. l still couldn't find any action. At the end of the evening, he switched to an alternate rig to try and catch some panfish. I picked up his rig with the dart and flutter spoon and had a solid hit on the first cast. Naturally it was on his tired dropper and the fish broke the line.

Are Shad leader shy, I'm not sure but you can bet that the next time we go Shad fishing, I'll be spooled up with some flouro and have a flutter spoon dropper on my rig.

Here's my brother proving once again that he's a better Shad fisherman than me. He really knows how to work a tandem rig of Shad darts catching 3 or 4 Shad that day. All l I could manage to catch was a couple of White Perch and a dink Striper.
