Fishing Report:
Shad are in! I had a great day fishing with my brother for Shad. They were on the smaller side but still a blast to catch on light tackle.

A single Shad dart followed by a flutter spoon ruled the day. Very few fish took the dart.

Fishing Report:
There's still some shad to be had on the Susquehanna river. I only caught around 1/2 dozen or so today. The trick today was fishing on the edge of the fast moving water to avoid hooking up with the numerous white perch and dink stripers.

I heard from a fellow fisherman that tne shad fishing was better now at the base of the Conowingo dam.

Fishing Report:
We had a great day of Shad fishing on the Susquehanna. We arrived around 4:00 PM and had constant action until dark. We caught white perch, stripers herring and hickories.

There was great water flow and the fish were very active. Some of the shad jumped as high as three feet. A great day of fishing on the mighty Susquehanna!

Fishing Report:
I had a great day fishing yesterday with my brother for shad on the susky. The day started out slow but as the afternoon wore on the fishing really picked up.

This year I finally help my own with him on catching; with each of us landing around a dozen fish. All the shad were caught on a double header of old school shad darts in a pool at the mouth of a creek. Yellow, pink and green seems to be the color they liked today.

On a whim I cast out far into the river to the rip you see behind my brother and hooked up with a 24 inch striper. I managed to get him in but quickly released him since its the spawn and the regulations are very strict on catching stripers.

I've been told if you're fishing for shad and start hooking up with a bunch of stripers its best to move to another spot since you will get a little talking to and maybe even a fine if your "by-catch" is noticed by a DNR officer.

Fishing Report:
After moving to the river since Deer Creek seems to be only giving up 1 fish per trip, I was able to land my one and only fish for this evening.

This nice hickory that could not resist the flutter spoon and gulp minnow that was tied after my shad dart. We seemed to be getting all of our Shad these days on the Susquehanna with the flutter spoon, not the darts.

Fishing Report:
I went on my annual shad trip with my brother John to the susquehanna river last night. Since the river was flowing high and we fished the spot on Deer Creek where I landed a single solitary Shad last week.

As with last week, this spot only yielded one fish and of course John caught it. Not only does he usually land the first fish when we fish together but he usually does it before I even get a cast in. Not so last night, I had a good 2 or 3 casts before he caught this fish!

Fishing Report:
I tried to get my brother to go fishing for Shad this evening on the Susquehanna river but he felt it was about a week too early. I figured I would give it a shot anyway to see what I could come up with.

When I got to the river, it was flowing high and after about 1/2 hour of no luck I drove up to where Deer Creek enters into the Susquehanna. The mouth of Deer Creek is a great spot and as usual it was packed. I found a spot about 1/4 mile up stream and tried to beat the skunk by catching anything. I started casting a Bass Pro spinner and managed to land a nice Shad. I didn't measure him but I would guess he was in the 16 to 18 inch range. Mission accomplished, he was the only fish all evening.

While fishing, I met a guy who was putting on his waders and heading down to the mouth of the creek. He said that he caught 42 on Monday night, but I could see those guys tonight and there wasn't much going on. I'm not sure if my brother was right about next week, but hopefully we both can find an evening to head up to the river to find out.
