Nothing beats a good day of Spade fishing other than posing with some of the lucky ones to come home with me. They are excellent fighters as well as excellent tasting.

Fishing Report:
Well if you ever want to pick a fight that you may or may not win its with the Spade Fish. Re guard less of the size this fish pack a big punch. Today the target area was the Chesapeake Tower. The Spades were every where but are very finicky about what they and how it looks. They love clam but fresh is better and stringy on the hook. Circle hooks work best. The limit I think was ten and I got 12 and gave my NC Crew partner .

Fishing Report:
On this day 6-09-16 at the Chesapeake Light Tower, the water was calm and the spade fish were everywhere. They were swimming all around my boat, just daring me to try and catch them. I pulled out my homemade secret weapon,
that consisted of 20lb braided line tied to a large barrel swivel. I put a red bead and a green bead on it. I used a strong small hook. I did not use a sinker. I let the large barrel swivel act as my sinker, slowly lowering my deadly rig into the water.(It worked). Spade fish for dinner.

Fishing Report:
This is a picture from my first time ever fishing for spadefish on buckroe beach pier in Hampton. I ended up catching the largest spade on that pier last year, but never got it weighed officially because of a shift change. Sabiki rig with clam fishbites did the trick. Also caught some blues on threadfin.

Fishing Report:
This is Evan with his first ever spadefish from a couple seasons ago. We had been seeing them around the pilings at the CBBT and not tried for them yet. He baited up a hook with a bit of clam and floated it back while we were still working on flounder. He got the first one on the boat and had a heck of a fight. These little fish are amazing fighters and GREAT table fare!. The ATTACHED VIDEO is from this past summer when we finally went after them specifically. This will be a regular trip or two every year from now on!

Fishing Report:
My son Evan and I got into spadefish this summer at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. We got our limit very quick and then remembered to turn on the go pro and caught the action to share. We probably got 30 or 40 of them total. These little 2 and 3 pounders are a GREAT fight on light tackle. We used clams and bottom rigs suspended about 10' down. The video link is below.
