Fishing Report:
The long winter has ended. The snow mostly melted, with only the dregs remaining in the deepest, shadowy places of the forest. Lake ice, retreating from the shore in a glum surrender to wistful spring has opened an area large enough to cast for any fish willing to play along in this great resurgence of primal instinct. I stand there on the low point and ponder which lure to tempt them. In the end the choice is easy, my tried and trusty whopper-plopper. The WP is fun to cast and anticipate even when it does not draw an explosive strike. I’ve had fish grab it savagely as soon as it hit the water, just before I pulled it out and anywhere in between. I trip the bail, swing the rod back and sweep it forward….

Forty-five minutes ago I had paraded out of the house with my gear, proclaiming that I would not be back before dark. This gave me about two hours to fish. Upon arrival I realized that I was too late to get the best spot, but the cool temperature, steady north wind and thin cloud had discouraged any other rivals. Here I was now in the second best spot having used each of my lures enough to realize the fish were not interested in them. I don’t know if it is just me but I have noticed that as I get older, cold temperatures cause my kidneys to reach levels of production that rival happy hour at my favourite pub. That hot post-supper cup of tea had magically expanded to an alarming volume. Cleaning weeds after each cast had dampened my hands enough that they were now numb. My three layers of clothing, wool cap and two hoods had surrendered to the invasive pressure of the wind. My feet were cold. Had I caught anything, or even had a convincing bite, I am sure none of those sensations would have registered in my adrenaline fired brain. But I hadn’t and they did. It is time to go home and rejoice that fishing season is now upon us and we have six more months of better days. But this one was still better than my best day at work. Yaaaahoooooo!

Fishing Report:
Beautiful day on the Bay with Jimmy. We probably traveled to the edge of the earth and back and couldn’t get a single bite. Needless to say it was a perfect day for fishing but with low water temps the bite seemed to be turned all the way off. I think it’s that time to call it a season for me.

So while moving on to new fishing ground my boat suddenly lost compression and started bogging in and out almost leaving us dead in the water. Luckily captain Jimmy jumped into action and got us crawling back to the docks safely. Despite boat issues it was still a great day on the bay with my good buddy Jimmy.

Another tough day of fishing at the Maryland SQTs. We took the hike up to the flats and couldn't get on the fish. It turned out to be cold wet day with no bass in sight. Just another day fishing. Work in progress learning a lot.

With the crazy weather I figured it was worth a shot to see if the Shad have arrived.
No luck, we couldn't even catch a perch today.

I've been skunked for two weeks using the traditional rod and reel method. Upon stepping onto our boat there was a "lovely" smell. This young lad was in our dingy. 😂. The seagulls got a good dinner.

Had an amazing time fishing with the #nysurfcrew . These guys take surf fishing to a whole different level. They aren't a crew that drops a line in and waits they scope out for Intel diving birds and rips close to the shoreline. Then they attack it felt like I was in the navy seals on a special ops mission. @shaka-antoine thanks for the invite had a blast. I need to be in much better shape hanging with your crew. I was dead Sunday after a whole day running the shoreline.

Out with my buddy Dave last Saturday. He spent the day snagging and losing all my good lures but he was finally able to recover one of my rigs after being snagged on a mean case of the sea squirts? Have no clue what these things are lol. But that's all he could catch. Fun day on the bay regardless.

Almost washed the skunk off, but missed this one rogue bass that did not get the message they weren't supposed to bite today. Muddy water from all the rain and extremely high tide stopped the bite. Should have known better when I noticed that there were no birds fishing. At least I got in a good test on my rain suit!

Fishing off my cousin's wharf in Cape Breton, N.S. - He figures we spooked them when we walked onto it. No matter - it was just fine by me to wet a line on one of my old stomping grounds.

Decided to try the ICW again today. The tide was coming down and the dedicated saltwater fishermen were arriving after their day at work. We SHOULD get some hits. NOT!!! Clearly we have a lot to learn about saltwater fishing.

Fishing Report:
Does It count as a Skunk if you never wet a line? I was too early to rent any gear and a park attendant pointed out a sign about Blue Algae that was so thick the park authorities were no longer renting gear anyway. One fellow was fishing with his own gear and he claimed that Largemouth up to 4 lbs are swimming in the Harlem Meer. He also said that the rental gear (and supplied bait) mostly produces Bluegills. They are present in the hundreds, although with water that is greener than an Olympic Diving pool I couldn't see any. Oh well - maybe my next trip to the Big Apple. You can make out some turtles swimming behind me. Lots of them in all Central Park Ponds.

Me working the weeds trying to get a bite. First time fishing this area. I prefer lipless cranks but I was told I needed to be using poppers, topwater lures or weedless.

Breaking in the tandem kayak with the wife. We need to work out our rhythm but we were able to throw a few lines out without rolling each other over into the water lol. As you can see fellas look who gets stuck doing all the work paddling and fishing at the same time. It's was a great day for fishing.

Well this trip didn't go as planned. The eels Joe picked up only go bitten in half by Bluefish...even my fake eel was lost to bluefish. I had a small fish on but lost it while Joe was able to land a few up to 8lbs...skunked for me! We will be back at it shortly.
