From 2016, we couldn’t get our lines in the water fast enough to keep up with all the cats. This is probably only half of what we caught.

Tough day today as you had to work for your bites. I felt good landing this bonito and keeper sea bass both caught on a hammered 2 ounce jig. Also caught a trash fish grand slam (bengal, skate, sea robin & sun dial).

Long story short. My son and I had a great day. Before we left the dock, I told my son that I had 2 goals; 1-to catch at least one bonito, one false albacore (little tunny) and one spanish mackerel & 2-to catch at least 1 fish on each of the 3 rods I brought. Caught the spanish mackerel and bonito within the first 15 minutes. Added the false albacore (pictured) not long after. I ended the day with 8 false albacore, 3 bonito and 1 spanish mackerel. My son had 12 false albacore and 1 spanish mackerel.

Fishing Report:
Finally was able to catch my first NJ spanish mackerel. They were chasing small bait at the end of the incoming tide at the west end of Manasquan Inlet. Also had shots at false albacore but couldn’t connect (which would have been nice and given me a speedster grand slam from the inlet to go along with the bonito I caught there a few weeks back). Both were caught on a 7/8 ounce Hogy Epoxy Jig.

Story Date: 09/15/2019 14:24 PM

Location: Manasquan Inlet NJ

Category: Fluke

Fishing Report:
Sunday Morning Manasquan Inlet Report; Arrived with about 90 minutes of incoming water. Water had a nasty brown tinge to it and was weedy. Water quality improved and became less weedy somewhat towards high water slack before once again becoming dirty and weedy as the outgoing tide started. Fishing was picky. The fluke would bite for brief periods then back off. I ended up with 5 fluke (all shorts) from 16.5-17.5”s but all very chunky. Did see two keepers brought up to 20”s. In addition, I caught 2 over sized snappers of @12”s and this stargazer (pictured). Plenty of life up and down the wall as I also saw blowfish, ‘pin’ sea bass and cow nose rays caught. I heard from several regulars that yesterday had a very good bite on both tides with numerous keeper fluke caught-including a husband and wife who each got their limit. I’m hoping to get back either this Tuesday or Wednesday (perhaps both if I don’t decide to go offshore and chase false albacore & bonito one of those days ).

Fishing Report:
I experienced the slowest fluke fishing yesterday and today that I’ve had all summer fishing for fluke at Manasquan Inlet. Prior to this weekend, I was averaging 12-15 fluke per trip. Yesterday I only caught one and had one other bite in 4 hours. Today I caught 6 with the last 2 being 17.5”s and 17.75”s (pictured)-but both very chunky.

Fishing Report:
I haven't been out fishing much lately due to a combination of weather, mechanical failures and the usual assortment of tasks associated with moving our household. But that will change and last night I landed the largest fish I've caught in over two years. It would not have happened but for a long list of strangers who offered assistance for various things throughout the day. I'd name them here if there was enough space. So this post is for them, even if they didn't have the fun of landing this 28 inch beauty.

Fishing Report:
After receiving a hot tip from a good friend of mine about a hot bonito bite in the inlet yesterday, I rearranged my morning schedule and arranged to meet him this morning. Things were not looking promising upon my arrival as the water was dirty with the last of the out going tide. I decided to fish for fluke until my friend arrived and proceeded to catch 3 short fluke in a 10-15 minute span. Upon his arrival, he informed me that the water will definitely clear up with the incoming tide—he was right. We started seeing birds working over a tide line and pods of bait with the occasional fish breaking among them. We waited for the fish to come to us but after 30 minutes they really didn’t move closer, so we moved closer to them. Was not the fast and furious bite he experienced yesterday (having almost constant action for 2 hours)-but we did catch a few.I ended up going 3 for 5 while also have a few followers and he went 2 for 4 with some followers. These were my first “beach bonito”-as I’ve only caught them in the open ocean in the past. Only a few others were fishing for them without success (although we were told someone had a few at the top of the inlet jetty). We caught all of ours on a 4” Tsunami Split Tail. As an aside, I saw a good amount of fluke being caught
