fishing report photo of Weakfish photo taken on 7/19/2019 7:31:00 AM contributed by snick4444

Catch Date: 07/19/2019 7:31 AM

Story Date: 07/22/2019 16:46 PM

Location: Great Bay NJ

Category: Weakfish

Fishing Report:
I haven't caught a weakfish since before Hurricane Sandy so this weekend was a nice surprise! Landed 12 total weakfish over two days. Granted, they were all under a foot except for one (would have been a keeper size, but we let her live another day to hopefully get another spawn in!). Also caught in the mix were some fluke (all shorts) and sea robin. Most fish caught on gulp, some live bait.

My son and I jumped on a party boat out of Pt. Pleasant-steamed about 20 miles offshore. Took 5-10 minutes for the fish to find us, then it was game on. We each caught @50 bonito. This is a cooler shot after the first drift

Fishing Report:
I’ve never been much of a summer deep water bass fisherman, I do better in cooler weather in the shallows.

A couple of friends are showing me the deep water ropes, and I’m starting to see some results.

fishing report photo of Fluke photo taken on 7/10/2019 8:40:00 PM contributed by Skolmann

Catch Date: 07/10/2019 20:40 PM

Story Date: 07/11/2019 7:17 AM

Location: Raritan Bay West Reach NY

Category: Fluke

Fishing Report:
Did a magic Hour fluke trip from 5-9 PM yesterday. Experienced almost ideal conditions (if we had the wind out of a slightly more westerly direction and just a tad stronger it would have been prefect). As it was I was able to box two keeper fluke to 20”s. Caught @20 shorts. Only two other keepers were boated (although short action kept everyone’s rod bent)-also by the same person, who also won the pool with a 21”er (caught seconds after I caught my big one). All my fish came via dragging bait-either a killies or spearing.

Fishing Report:
Another day, same results. Was accompanied by my son Jason today. Arrived tail end of the incoming tide and fished into 3/4 of the outgoing. Incoming had almost constant action but mostly dinks. Considerably slower during the slack. Outgoing saw a steady increase in action although not as steady as the incoming but bigger fish. I lost count after we combined for 50. Jason caught everything fishing plain GULP and I caught everything fishing a killies. Also caught my first sea robin of 2019-don’t think I ever went this long into the summer without catching one.

Fishing Report:
Been a busy few weeks for me so I've been slacking on my fishing reports! I've been out in Great Bay three times over the past two weeks. Usually going out at daybreak and staying out for a few hours each day. Lots of action, but no keepers! All fish caught on gulp or minnow.

Fishing Report:
Got in a few hours today (fished same spot yesterday for 90 minutes but didn’t take any pictures) fishing the last 90 minutes of the incoming tide through the first 2 hours of the outgoing. Bite was nearly constant on the incoming dropping to a pick around the slack before picking up somewhat on the outgoing. Lost count of how many short fluke I caught (same for yesterday). Did catch some “quality shorts” up to 17”s among all the dinks. Also caught this small cocktail bluefish, who wouldn’t sit still for me to take a good picture.

Fishing Report:
My son Jason got out on his buddy boat and the two of them put absolute beat down on schoolie sized striped bass. They both caught 20-25 striped bass from 22-28”s in under a hour. At one point my son made 10 casts and caught 10 stripers. Everything caught on Zara Spooks. Figures that I got caught in traffic on the way home and couldn’t make it.

Fishing Report:
Jason and I had a great trip this evening aboard Reel 17 with Capt. Stephen Moran at the helm. Spent the first few hours doing some light tackle fluking. Probably put 60 fluke in the boat up to #4 Always fun catching fluke on tackle better suited for trout. Once the sun got low, we switched gears and went on the hunt for stripers. First spot was game on as we encountered a savage top water bite with bass from 24-29”s landing 20 in a little over a hour’s time. If you look closely at the picture of Jason holding up one of his bass, you’ll see another bass exploding on my plug.

Fishing Report:
Plenty of fluke in Manasquan Inlet. Fished about 90 minutes between rain showers and landed a total of 10 fluke (all shorts 13-16”s). Fished from a hour before high slack to just after high slack. Bigger fish hit closer to slack. Everything on a single killie fished on a light wire hook on a #20 leader. Guy fishing next to me outfished me 2:1 using a hi-lo rig tied on #15 flurocarbon with a white 4” white GULP swimming minnow on top and a pearl GULP jerk shad on the bottom with 1 ounce sinker on the bottom.

My personal best so far post spawn. Caught this one on a chatter bait. Note one of my favorite lures but when in Rome... it’s great to pull through grass. I’ve found this year swim jigs with a weed gaurd are all the rage. It covers a lot of area and you can throw it almost anywhere.
