Fishing Report:
I haven't been out fishing much lately due to a combination of weather, mechanical failures and the usual assortment of tasks associated with moving our household. But that will change and last night I landed the largest fish I've caught in over two years. It would not have happened but for a long list of strangers who offered assistance for various things throughout the day. I'd name them here if there was enough space. So this post is for them, even if they didn't have the fun of landing this 28 inch beauty.

Fishing Report:
The long winter has ended. The snow mostly melted, with only the dregs remaining in the deepest, shadowy places of the forest. Lake ice, retreating from the shore in a glum surrender to wistful spring has opened an area large enough to cast for any fish willing to play along in this great resurgence of primal instinct. I stand there on the low point and ponder which lure to tempt them. In the end the choice is easy, my tried and trusty whopper-plopper. The WP is fun to cast and anticipate even when it does not draw an explosive strike. I’ve had fish grab it savagely as soon as it hit the water, just before I pulled it out and anywhere in between. I trip the bail, swing the rod back and sweep it forward….

Forty-five minutes ago I had paraded out of the house with my gear, proclaiming that I would not be back before dark. This gave me about two hours to fish. Upon arrival I realized that I was too late to get the best spot, but the cool temperature, steady north wind and thin cloud had discouraged any other rivals. Here I was now in the second best spot having used each of my lures enough to realize the fish were not interested in them. I don’t know if it is just me but I have noticed that as I get older, cold temperatures cause my kidneys to reach levels of production that rival happy hour at my favourite pub. That hot post-supper cup of tea had magically expanded to an alarming volume. Cleaning weeds after each cast had dampened my hands enough that they were now numb. My three layers of clothing, wool cap and two hoods had surrendered to the invasive pressure of the wind. My feet were cold. Had I caught anything, or even had a convincing bite, I am sure none of those sensations would have registered in my adrenaline fired brain. But I hadn’t and they did. It is time to go home and rejoice that fishing season is now upon us and we have six more months of better days. But this one was still better than my best day at work. Yaaaahoooooo!

Fishing Report:
I haven't been out much over the last year and a half as my wife and I are preparing our retirement house for permanent occupation. @tdawg reminded me to check the site again so I thought I'd post the highlight of a very limited fishing season. I was just out cruising the lake in #bos-mon and took some rods just in case. About 1.5 miles from my house in 6-8 feet of water I found a huge school of Smallies suspended over a large flat sand bottom. I hooked the first one with a white whopper plopper #wwp but lost it after a fierce fight. This one took a white rooster tail with a chartreuse blade #wrtcb. The reel broke when I set the hook and I had to hand line her into the boat. She put on quite a show and pulled so hard she cut my finger. But here she is, all 18 inches of her and now she is back in the lake building up for round 2. I have 96 working days left before I retire and can fish full time. You guys will see more posts starting then.

Fishing Report:
Out celebrating my Birthday this morning with my wife and favourite fishing buddy. The fish were frolicking on the surface out in the middle of the lake. I caught this 16" SMB on a #mbcb1m. Tied for best ever. He rolled on the surface within casting distance of #bos-mon just as I finished a retrieve. I cast over there and FISH-ON! Nice fight all the way to the boat. I was happy for his contribution to the festivities.

My sister had never been out on #bos-mon before so today I took her for a cruise on my local lake. It is full of baitfish today and so are the Bass. Lucky for us this guy volunteered to be the first of his kind that she has ever caught. My old reliable #bfsvs5 did the trick. #netcam

The Net Cam was deployed but failed to get a good shot. So this 15.5 inch Smallie had to pose in the usual way. Caught on the #bfsvs5 from #bos-mon. The lake is close to an airbase that hosts a remote control aircraft club on Sundays. I was treated to an airshow while fishing. Some very impressive RC flying and no crashes.

After returning from the Salt Marsh Trail I launched #bos-mon on my local lake and soon boated this one, her slightly smaller sister and two Chain Pickerel, all on the same lure. The irony is I was after Trout using one of my favorite Trout lures, a Blue Fox Super Vibrax Silver size 5 #bfsvs5 At least now I know that it works on a variety of fish.

Fishing Report:
Out on the Salt Marsh Trail to celebrate the completion of 24,000 kms of Trans-Canada walking trails. They had a bagpiper, cake and local politicians speaking about it. I brought along my Mackerel rig for when the speeches got boring. (Which was right after they started). Even though the tide was falling, this frisky Mackerel hit the lure and put up a good fight to wash off the Skunk. Lucky for him he wasn't big enough to feed everyone so I threw him back. I could have got a better photo but for the fact that I don't have a third arm and I was balancing on rocks beside a roaring ebb tide current.

The water here is so clear that most of the time I can watch the lure all the way back from where it landed. Fishing Report:
Just a little while later I was greeted by this feisty Smallmouth who pounced upon my silver lipless crankbait #slc in about 15 feet of water. #bos-mon The total catch for the day (actually about 5 1/2 hours) was 6 SMB and 2 Chain Pickerel (CP) with another 2 CP released at long distance.

Even after very heavy rain the previous day the water was very clear and he could see this lure from at least 20 feet away. Felt like an open field hit when he grabbed it. Sadly there are no Largemouth Bass in Nova Scotia but there are lots of Smallmouth, Stripers, Trout Salmon and Chain Pickerel. I hope to be posting pics of all of them this summer and fall.

Jimmy, I promised you a fishing story and pic when I got back home. With all of the moving associated responsibilities it took just over a week to obtain a kitchen pass and get out but it quickly paid off. This lake is just a 2 minute drive from my house and is heavily fished by our standards ( I counted four other boats out there over the morning ). This Chain Pickerel (we call them "Axe handles") greeted my return with enthusiasm. #bos-mon. #berkleyredcrawdad12

Fishing Report:
Out fishing with my son, @fisher-guru. We had about two hours before high tide so we decided to hit the wharf with some jigs and a 2 oz weight. Four hooks per line and we often had two or more on while we landed 41 Mackerel and 1 pollock in just over 80 minutes. Naturally, my son caught most of them. He landed the Cod plus 26 of the Mackerel. Both of us had the fun of landing four at once and twice we had simultaneous double headers. Next time we will take a towel or two to clean our hands between releasing fish. Just little guys but 4 at a time makes for a great fight! The spot was recommended by the staff at Canadian Tire #ct and the gear was recommended by the staff at Better Buy Sports #bbs
