My buddy Josh and partner in the jetski fishing game here in eastern Pa. we are fishing 4 days straight in a well growing local shad tournament off our jet skis. We have been telling the "shad crew" for months now that we were using the skis and they all laughed or thought we were crazy. I'll admit it is crazy because it's unconventional. Where there's a will there's a way, and we rigged out skis out with everything we need to anchor and fish in comfort. Many guys see us now and compliment our setups. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what way your fishing, from land, boat, yak, or jet ski, we all have the same common goal. Enjoy the sport, be safe and have a great day on the water. It sure beats a day at work! Here's to the 2017 Bi-State Shad fishing contest. Good luck and keep stacking!

You guys are taking MicroSkiff's to a new level! How much water do the skis draw?

The PA Angler

Apr 21 2017

You mean as far as how shallow we can run? I've heard 6" on plane but we are fishing 8-12' water and are about 1-1-1/2 miles upriver from launch. Shallowest part we go thru is 3'. I get cautions anything less than 2' bc I don't run it on plane in shallow water due to random rocks that you can't see until it's too late at that speed lol

Yeah, I was wondering if you could just go full blast on the ski and not worry about rocks like some of the jet boat guys do.

fished out of Belmar, NJ shark river inlet with 3 other guys for fluke. Hit the water at 6am got back on dock about 230pm. Between the 4 of us caught over 70 fluke. These are my only two keepers both just a hair over the 18" limit. Almost sad how bad the size limit is for anglers but yet commercial boats can drag nets and keep them at 12". I remember when I was 15-16 yr old the limit was 15" and I would come home with 7 fish. Now they let you keep 5 fish over 18" and I have had two limits in the last 6 years. Hopefully it changes one day. I fear the party boat industry will be gone in my lifetime.

Fluke fishing in shark river and my buddy caught a really nice blackfish (tautog) but the season had just closed so back in the wash it went. Fought like hell. Good eating fish too. Wound up with nothing but short fluke on this trip but this was highlight of the day. This trip was back in May or June I believe.

First Shad tourny of 2015 it was a beautiful morning on the delaware river. As of 1030am we have 25 caught and lost 5. Biggest about 4.5lb. Not big enough to bring to the noon weight in but hopefully after that we have one to bring for the 6pm weigh in. Enjoy the day stackers!

Fishing the Elks fluke tourny July 2014 brigantine bay. Caught this 5.3lb flattie on a 1oz spro with gulp. Took 3rd place in combined boat total weight. Won some cash but the kicker of the day....lost a $300 st croix/Abu 9501 and lost my footing on a "emergency" boat move at the inlet and fell into the wash. Brand new custom oakley glasses wound up at the bottom of the bay that day too. Haha. Live and learn! Tight lines!
