The Big Drum are here for the big spawn - a little slow getting in river this year but making a better showing now. I have been catching on lighter tackle; ie 7' TFO H and MH Signature rods with Daiwa Lexa 3500 Reel spooled with 170 yards of Fins Windtamer 30# Braid. For bait you I throw a DOA Deadly Combo Popping Cork rigged with a DOA Airhead and VMC Drop Dead weighted hook. Gets the job done with a great fight but brings drum to boat so as not to harm him or her. Bait such as fresh mullet can also be used by setting up on ledges and soaking bait on Lupton rigs and using heavier gear such as Daiwa Opus Plus 5500 combo.
Season will run through September with some fish hanging around area into October as water temps drop.
