Meet Jimmy
I've been fishing for over 40 years and enjoy catching fish of all sizes. My favorite style of fishing is jigging and crankbaits. My home waters are the Chesapeake bay, the Neuse river and it's tributaries and the Loch Raven reservoir.

A Crappie Day
I didn’t find much action today at Loch Raven, one crappie for the day. At least it was a nice one.

Tons of Pickerel
I’m finding lots of chainies along the shore at Loch Raven. This guy was the largest of the day.

Finally a Fish
Finally a fish! I've been fishing all winter but not catching!

I took my yak to a local creek today and wasn't hooking up. I kept noticing splashes so close to the bank I figured they were frogs. Finally a splash within casting distance landed this short striper. Go figure!

Grilled Striper
We're experimenting with various ways to cook Striper this fall. Up tonight is a 21 inch Striper cooked on the Weber.

This gutted and headed fish was stuffed with lemon, thyme, oregano and salt. It also had a good rubdown with olive oil and salt.

After a good searing on both sides it was removed from direct and cooked to 130 degrees in its thickest part on the grill.

The fish and its skin were moist and delicious! The only issue was a little under cooking in its thickest part on the vertebrae. Next time we'll go 140 degrees on a fish this size.

Nothing Better
A full moon rise over the Chesapeake at dusk in the fall with the call of loons echoing across the water. Nothing beats that!

My $6900 fishing lure
It was a beautiful day for chasing birds on the Chesapeake but for some reason the fish were not schooling today. The birds were scattered with a single quick dive here and there and then back to flight searching for the next fish.

Since it was such a calm day, I figured a topwater lure was the best fish whistle I had, so I started throwing it. I started to get some strikes by dinks so I just drifted and casted. Finally I got a larger short right at the boat. I kept working and finally got this nice 21 inch fish with about 6 feet of line out. I then started getting more and more strikes at the boat.

So I was wrong, topwater was not my best fishing lure today. The best fishing lure I have is a little expensive, it's called a Grady White 192 lol

Surf Fishing
Who says you can't surf fish the upper Chesapeake? You just need to find high winds, a long fetch and a shoal! Lol

Christmas Gift
I'm going have to buy my brother a better rig for Christmas. His 3500 reels with mono couldn't reach the big fish. At least he didn't get skunked!

Fishing Deep
I'm still trying to become a deep water fisherman. I'm hoping this will help if I can figure out how to use it! Lol

Evening Catch
I'm finding some good fishing around structure as the sun goes down. The wind has really limited where to fish but I'm still landing some decent fish. On this trip we caught fish up to 20 inches.

Troublesome Trip
The fishing trip that almost didn't happen. First the weather went south over night with a small craft up until 8am. Second the boat motor started to shake violently at 1500 rpm. Third the depth finder wouldn't boot, just a white screen.

Unfortunately for this fish, I'm stubborn. I stopped the motor and restarted it and after the third time its ran fine for about a 1/4 of a mile. It looked like the motor was going to work about 1/2 the time, so that put us at 2 1/2 strikes instead of 3, fish on! It was a slow day but I got my dinner and my brother also had a keeper that he released.

williamNice catch Jimmy.Check your fuel line and filter may have tank settlement in it which causes it to run rough .
LikeReply 7 months
JimmyI'm hoping it's a fuel issue. I went out again by myself with no issues, so I'm curious to see if it happens again with another person on board. The tank is full so if she runs ok, I'll check for sludge when the tank gets low.

I had a great evening fishing for stripers including this nice fish. Lucky for him I forgot my body bag to transport him back home, so I left him swimming with the fishes.

Wind Shutdown
I went out against this morning but the south wind with an outgoing tide really limited where I could fish with my small boat. I did mange a couple of stripers before calling it quits.

Perfect Dinner Guest
A the morning topwater blitz ended I switched to a crankbait in the same location. I worked the crank in the deeper water since I figured the larger fish where working their way back out to deep water as the day wore on. I picked up the very healthy 21 fish, the perfect dinner guest for me and my wife.
