Big ol boy
Doing a little shark fishing but pulled in this bad boy instead. Not a huge fight but felt like I was dragging a mattress across the bottom. Super fun and glad to report we removed the hook and had a safe release!!

Summer is almost over!
With summer winding down and kiddos going back to school soon, it was still an absolutely beautiful weekend at Fort Fisher. This flounder was an inch too small to keep but a good day none the less!!

Paradise
Got the chance to fly fish on the firehole river in Yellowstone National Park. What a phenomenal experience. Truly unlocked the magic of the stream with beautiful weather and a bead headed pheasant tail fly.

First keeper of the season!
After a long winter I’m back at it! This was from last weekend and I’m excited to report it’s a keeper! First black drum for me, should be the start of a great year.

Stacking specks
Had the chance to get out in the kayak Friday night and had some luck with a yellow/gold seashad swimbait from saltwater assassin, as well as live finger mullet on a bottom rig. Always fun to show the kiddos. We filleted them that night and made memories to last. Early fall in the lower Cape fear is a blast.

Sunday Funday
Back at the Sunday fishing tradition and I was joined by my wife this time! After a breezy, cool, early fall Evening of pulling in chain pickerel on mepps spinners, we settled down at our favorite bar for some football. Not a bad way to round out the weekend. If life is like this from
Here on out, id say we're lookin good.

Spec delight
The winds were a a absolutely atrocious this evening as my favorite sand bar was covered by high tide. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth I landed this speckled trout with a sabiki Rig. Pretty pumped as it is my first catch for this species. Holla.

CanuckI have never caught one of these. Here in Nova Scotia we have our own "Sea Trout". Some Brook Trout have learned to migrate into the coastal salt water for a year or two and are known locally as Sea Trout. They are larger and tastier than regular Brook Trout.

AlgernonMy wife being from Montana has never heard of them either. I sent her the picture and she was shocked it "looked so much like a trout". Surprise! You're right!

Shrimpin ain't easy
The shrimp are loose! Catch them with a cast net in the intercostal waterway. A little old bay seasoning and they're ready.

TerryBI went shrimping years ago. It's a lot of work casting those nets but so worth it for fresh shrimp.

Boom!
First day here in technically the Cape fear river, but really just the intercostal waterway here at fort fisher. Simple bottom rig with shrimp pulled in this guy. Happy to be out on the water after a brief break. Will be back here next weekend!

Sunday evening tradition
Over the past few years my wife and I have made a Sunday evening tradition of bass fishing then grabbing a brew or two straight after. Always feels good to sit and relax and talk about the fish we catch, or most often didn't catch. Won't trade those Sunday evenings for the world.

Flounder city
One of many under sized flounder we pulled out that day using a "Spec rig" as suggested by William. It was catching flounder and croaker in the inlet. Good tip that led to some good catches!

A first!
Hopped in the kayak and pushed off behind the aquarium in Virginia Beach. Made my way up one of the arms of the inlet where I connected with my first red drum! It bit a bottom rig with clam fish bites and sent the drag singing. I was pretty excited to lend him with a new reel as well. Great day to be on the water.

Bass assassin
A simple white worm with no weight seemed to be the magic bullet. I was really surprised to learn how fresh the water was down in False Cape state park being that it is so close to the ocean. But sure enough the largemouth couldn't get enough of the lures. Headed back to VA beach and fishing a few suggestions from William over the next 24 hours or so!

Back country camping and fishing
Me and a buddy loaded up a kayak with rum and fishing gear and set sail on Back Bay, with the bow pointed towards False Cape State Park for a two day overnight camping and fishing trip. Rounded out the trip with more fish than we could eat, just enough rum, and memories which will last forever.

Love fishing with this kiddo! To my surprise we pulled in a flounder and got a good picture before release. It was the third time I've taken him fishing, but up until now we haven't caught anything in the small lakes we've been at. Super excited to at least bring this in!

This little guy accidentally swam into one of my bottom rigs but was only slightly hooked in one of his flippers. Took the hook out very easily and snapped a quick shot before a safe release! I was worried it had swallowed the hook and all these tourists are going to see me man handle this little guy to remove it but it turned out to be not a problem at all.
