nice day yellow perch fishing on the Chesapeake bay with some pals...the key for these fish were small jig heads and VERY small minnows...they wouldn't touch anything bigger than two inches...fish fry anyone? lol!

JimmyGood deal! Are you marking fish on the ledges and then jigging, or just jigging where you know the fish should be from prior experience? I really need to up my game with marking and fishing, but I also need to up my game with better electronics!

mapplegate1 @jimmy I started at a place I figured would hold some fish and drifted while keeping an eye out for birds. groups of birds hovering over the water gave me clues about where to start drifts and the fish were under them!

Shaka Antoine8-12lbs stripers definitely put up a fight that makes me feel like there larger than the 32" they are. Especially when your fighting them around the rips. I can second watching what the birds are doing. It's a good way to have a good idea of what's going on below them. Good job on this catch. Do you guys have gannets down there?
LikeReply 3 years
mapplegate1 @shaka Antoine most of the birds we have down here are smaller gulls in the summer, but right now we are looking for big herring gulls feeding on menhaden. we will start seeing gannets in the winter in the southern bay!!
