Meet Skolmann
I mainly do inshore (backbays, bays, rivers and within 15 mikes of the coast) in New Jersey. I try to make 2-3 out of state trips per year. My favorite fishing destination is the Florida Keys to which I've been numerous times. My fishing bucket list destinations include; Australia, The Seychelles, Cabo San Lucas and The Amazon. My son Jason is my frequent fishing partner.

The Blue Beat Goes On
Still catching the same sized bluefish, #2-5 at the same spot. Only thing that’s changed is the plug. I snagged the plug (the one a I posted a picture of a few days ago) on a buoy so I had to break out it’s replacement-same plug in the same pattern, now I just have to get battle scars on it😁

Pre Season Recon
Although NJ fluke season doesn’t open until tomorrow, I did some pre season recon at the spot I’ve been fishing for bluefish since I had heard that several fluke were caught in the previous days. My second cast yielded this fluke which would have just made legal size status had the season been open. After a quick photo it was released.

I Think They Like This Plug
As you can see, Manasquan River bluefish have a taste for the bunker pattern SP Minnow.Been using this one since last spring and it still produces today. I see no reason to scratch up a new one. The only thing I did was upgrade the rear stock treble to a VMC treble. I’m thinking about taking off both trebles and replacing them with inline single hooks.

One On The Sand
Hit one of my go to spots on the river this morning. Intel from yesterday said the river was on fire with bluefish from #3-12. U fortunately that was yesterday. Fished this spot for about an hour without a touch and only saw one #2-3 caught. Took a ride over to the inlet that that was completely dead as it was at the bottom of the tide. Returned to my original spot and a few casts later, I was rewarded. Had two other bumps but never came tight.

First Bluefish of 2018
Finally found some bluefish this morning. Last year at this time they were in thick. The average size was also much bigger. Got 3 in the #3-5 class. Two on a SP Minnow and one a X-Rap.

Hooking A Buddy Up
I set up a striper charter several months ago and invited my Stackfish buddy Capt. Blaq Sparrow. The bite was slow for the fleet but we did manage to catch 3 stripers with Capt. Blaq (pictured above) catching one of those. All fish were taken trolling Mojo rigs.

Just Missed
Missed the pool by 0.15 ounces. Caught on my 3rd cast of the day on a swim bait. Had one other bite on it and two on clams.

1st fish of 2018
After a long winter, this was my first catch of 2018 caught this past Saturday (I did go fishing the week before but missed my only two bites). This bass just barely missed being legal size. I caught one other short, one that just legal size and a nice 41” #28.7 pool winner.

1st Pool Winner Of 2018
Took the pool with this #28.7 striped bass last Saturday. When it first hit the bait it just pecked at it several times. I thought it picked me clean but after a long few seconds and a few more pecks, I set the hook. At first I thought it was another schoolie but then it kicked in the afterburners. I caught 3 other stripers (2 shorts and 1 keeper) for high hook honors.

There She Blows
Fishing was very slow on Black Friday for the large crowd aboard the Golden Eagle party boat. Only five striped bass were caught (3 on artificials and 2 on live bait). We did have a humpback whale around use most of the day spouting and feeding on bunker. I was fortunate enough to be able to get a picture of the one time it breached.

Light Tackle Stripers
Had bass blowing all around the boat about a hour after sun up. We put away the trolling gear and broke out the spinning gear. Great action on white 6 inch Tsunami shads and 2 ounce castable Mojos. Ended up with boat limit, while releasing another 4 keeper sized bass and 6 shorts. This one was a shade under #16.

Canal Keeper
Slower bite today but still managed to cull my limit of one keeper tog.

Can’t wait for the limit to increase in a few days.

Savage blackfish bite for me in the Point Pleasant Canal today. Every cast resulted in a bite. I even managed to bang out this double header.

A pair of oversized bluefish. Jigging was fair with a few spurts of good. All bluefish were in the #15-20 class.

Double Hook Up
Both my son (right) and I are hooked up with #15+ bluefish. Some don’t like catching blues but I find them to be some of the hardest fighting fish in the sea.

Canal Blackfish
One of about a dozen tog (tautog, blackfish) that I caught today in 2.5 hours of fishing. Fished the last hour of the outgoing tide through the slack and the first 1.5 hours of the incoming tide. The one in the picture was the only one be of legal size but I still released it.

One of two false albacore (Little Tunny) from yesterdays trip. Also had 3 bonitos to go along with them. Just a side note, false albacore are not in the tuna family but in the mackerel family.
