Trolled to the edge of the earth and back
Beautiful day on the Bay with Jimmy. We probably traveled to the edge of the earth and back and couldn’t get a single bite. Needless to say it was a perfect day for fishing but with low water temps the bite seemed to be turned all the way off. I think it’s that time to call it a season for me.

Limited out
Caught 4 keepers lost a monster beside the boat. Was chasing the birds untill we found them bubbling the surface. Caught all rock on swim baits and top water plugs. On medium spinning reels best day I have had this season. The rockfishing is on fire.

JimmyIt's looking like a great Rocktober by all accounts. I'm finding good fishing anywhere between the Patapsco and Middle rivers.

Christmas Gift
I'm going have to buy my brother a better rig for Christmas. His 3500 reels with mono couldn't reach the big fish. At least he didn't get skunked!

Troublesome Trip
The fishing trip that almost didn't happen. First the weather went south over night with a small craft up until 8am. Second the boat motor started to shake violently at 1500 rpm. Third the depth finder wouldn't boot, just a white screen.

Unfortunately for this fish, I'm stubborn. I stopped the motor and restarted it and after the third time its ran fine for about a 1/4 of a mile. It looked like the motor was going to work about 1/2 the time, so that put us at 2 1/2 strikes instead of 3, fish on! It was a slow day but I got my dinner and my brother also had a keeper that he released.

williamNice catch Jimmy.Check your fuel line and filter may have tank settlement in it which causes it to run rough .

JimmyI'm hoping it's a fuel issue. I went out again by myself with no issues, so I'm curious to see if it happens again with another person on board. The tank is full so if she runs ok, I'll check for sludge when the tank gets low.

Perfect Dinner Guest
A the morning topwater blitz ended I switched to a crankbait in the same location. I worked the crank in the deeper water since I figured the larger fish where working their way back out to deep water as the day wore on. I picked up the very healthy 21 fish, the perfect dinner guest for me and my wife.

I had great morning topwater fishing for stripers this morning. For about a 1/2 hour ever cast got a hit. The fish ranged for 14-21 inches.

Down for the count Dead in the water
So while moving on to new fishing ground my boat suddenly lost compression and started bogging in and out almost leaving us dead in the water. Luckily captain Jimmy jumped into action and got us crawling back to the docks safely. Despite boat issues it was still a great day on the bay with my good buddy Jimmy.

The Cranksta @william thanks for the advice. It sounded like a fuel problem you might be right. Hope it doesn't cost me too much I should of reached to you guys first doh

The CrankstaI think Jimmy switched the lines to the back up tank. But maybe we should run it a little more. I didn't want risk it though being out there stranded.

CanuckIt does sound like a fuel problem, maybe the filter? Or it could be old gas if the tank was full over the winter. Good luck with it and please let us know what the problem is so I have a better clue if it happens to me. I also have a Merc. I feel your pain both with motor issues (All of mine have been electrical connections save one when my cooling water system clogged up) and watching my guest (even if it is a great guy like Jimmy) fill the boat while I captain it. Have you named her yet?
LikeReply 1 year
The Cranksta @canuck I'll let you know what they find out for sure. The motor is an old 88 Johnson 2 stroke and is most likely approaching end of days. I think I will name her "Major Pain" lol?? cuz that's what she's been putting me thru sense I got her.

Catch aaaaaand Release very quickly
The day started off promising. Jimmy and I hit the bay bridge hard in hopes of landing a few stripers. Got to give it to Jimmy he was pulling them up them up at every point but sadly the fish were pretty beat up and diseased looking. For me I struggled getting back into the groove of working the boat and fishing at the same time. Spent most of the time fumbling around while Jim caught all the fish lol. So we finally decided to make a move to get on better quality fish at another known hotspot when disaster struck...... To be continued....

Out again with my Defense Intelligence Agency ( #dia ) Rod & Gun Club buddies on another Striper Charter. This time aboard Captain Wayne Schuhart's Tricia Anne II out of Lookout Pointe Marina. We rocked and rolled around in the 10 - 20 knot winds, 2-4 foot waves and near freezing temperatures. His nice warm cabin kept us cozy while we took turns landing fish. Twelve in all with eight keepers. Another great day on the water.

After an unsuccessful morning at my favorite hole, I tried casting some spoons and rattle traps into working birds we came across on the way back in and ended up with some pretty hot action of 14"-16" fish. Although there were no keepers, it was fast fun action and made an otherwise non-eventful trip into a fun day on the upper bay.

Got a honeyhole you want to keep to yourself? This seems a bit extreme but it probably works! An added bonus is that the fish will come to the surface and just lie there for you to pick them up.
