Frugal Smallies in Conowingo
Those Smallies are very particular about what they strike but when they do they destroy it. I’ve learned quite a bit this year. Last tournament on conowingo. One more tourney left in the season

Great day fishing the club tourney. Landed two nice smallies on a retro Hula Popper back to back.

The Cranksta @terryb I was only able to land two. Two of the riders caught their limit in smallies but if I pulled up one lunker I might of had a chance :)

The newest strategy for protecting your spot: hire a large flock of buzzards to intimidate other fisherman on the parking lot.

TerryBI heard there was a certain way to hold them without getting bit. You seem to have your hand in his mouth. Any tips?
LikeReply 1 year
Buffie85Their teeth aren't very big at all but it will scrape you a bit. If you reach far enough into their mouth you'll be fine as long as they don't clamp down. Or you can play it safe and hold them by the gill plates

JimmyThey put up a great fight! Any word on the Shad on the Susky? I'm going to tear myself away from work for some Shad fishing once they get thick.

Buffie85At the dam, the gizzard shad are very very thick and the hickories and Americans are there in decent numbers. Not exactly sure how good it is but I occasionally look down and see people unhooking them

Been catching a good amount of these nastys. Better than sitting at home though

Buffie85I tried eating one a couple weeks ago. Didn't taste bad but had 3 sets of bones in addition to the ribcage on each fillet. I think it would be ok tablefare if you could de bone it

I fished the Conowingo dam for the first time in recent memory hoping to catch some late season shad. All I could manage was to foul hook some mud shad.

I think the season for the American and Hickories on the lower Susquehanna is for the most part over, since the ladder counts at the Conowingo dam are down to a little over 200 in recent days.

You are allowed to wade in just below the damn to target a variety of fish from monster cats to stripers depending on the season. It's an amazing spot to fish since mud shad, catfish and carp are breaking water everywhere around you.

The Gizzards, Carp and Herring are so thick you can help but foul hook them. I unhooked around a dozen fish but only caught one, the rest were foul hooked.

Lipless CranksterDid you pull that fish out of your jumpsuit? Is that how we're catching fish now :-) Those fish were jumping last night so I wouldn't be surprised if one of them jumped into your waders.

JimmyI'm surprised one didn't jump in my waders. We need to get out there and shoot a video, truly amazing fishing experience.
