Finally a fish!
It’s been a rough fall for my fishing since I’ve not been finding any stripers in my go to fall locations.

Between the freshwater flooding and the warm weather the fish haven’t been where I’ve been fishing.

I finally found a few stripers in shallow water including this barely legal 19 incher. With the water temps in the mid 60s, I’m hopeful things will start looking up!

Jimmy and I went out hoping to hit a few spots away from strong winds and rough water conditions. After a few hours there really wasn't a bite to be found. Nothing seem to go right the whole day all my reels were spooled incorrectly and one was locked up. It came down to my last respooled rig and a lucky well timed cast that allowed me to hook my first keeper from my boat lol. Needless to say any day out fishing is a great day. The wife hooked up a hot plate for dinner just made it all worth it at the end. :-)

JimmyI love black labs but after we lost Tucker our yellow lab my wife talked me into a smaller dog. Miss Maia is a black lab perma-pup. She's about 3 years old and around 40 pounds. She looks like a 3 month old black lab puppy but sure doesn't have a lab temperament. We think she's a black lab/Australian cattle dog mix. She's got the cattle dog personality for sure.

Fishing has been tough at my marina. I did mange this little guy off my sailboat while it was in its slip.

I did a little "trolling" along the bulkhead at my Marina today and landed this decent sized yellow perch along with several other small fish.

I troll bulkheads and piers by dropping a small jig with a pantail grub to the bottom and just start walking slow. It's always fun to see what will turn up.

I've haven't been fishing for a while so I had to try my hand at a little #icefishing while checking up on my sailboat.

I figured my chance's were pretty slim, especially since my #gulpswimmingmullet are frozen solid in my fishing boat.

I'm still finding some smaller stripers in shallow water. They must be a little cold since they are very "polite" and sit still while I unhook them!

I wasn't in the mood for a "One that Got Away" story so I ran back to my boat get another rig. I went further out on the jetty and worked my way back to where I lost the fish, just to give him time to think the coast was clear.

I hooked up with him again in the same spot, but this time I reached down into the water to pull him out. I always crimp my barbs and he had already shaken my pan-fish lure. A quick photo and he was safely released to fight again another day.

I took a break from working on my boat to do a little pan-fishing at my marina. The bite was slow but I was getting a new small fish here and there.

Working my way back to my boat, I hooked up with something too large for the rig I was using. I managed to get the fish to the jetty and was suprised to see a fat 16-19 inch striper.

I worked him slow, but at some point he managed to break my line and swim away with my 1/8 jig head and 1.5 inch pan-tail grub.

I took a break from working on my boat today to try and catch a fish or two at my marina. There was a gale blowing and large fish were nowhere to be found.

I was getting some bites from yellow perch in protected areas but nothing would stick since I had large lures on. I went back to my boat to get a panfish rig and on my way back I met a sailor friend.

I joked I'd be back with a fish. He took me up on the offer and countered, ok when in 5 minutes? I said no give me 2, I won!

I finally managed my first striper dinner of season with this barely legal 20 inch fish. A buddy of mine mentioned that his friends where doing good in the early morning with topwater.

Since I've been fishing a little deeper with heavy cranks and blades, I lightened it up a little with lighter cranks and lighter jig heads. This guy was taken on a 3/8 jig with a slow twitchy retrieve.

More proof that the stripers are setting up on their fall pattern. I caught this guy in 2 feet of water at my marina. All summer I could not catch a fish bigger than 7" in this spot.

Fishing has been a little off for me lately. I went out last week with Picasso for some striper fishing and was totally skunked. I guess should have posted a report since Picasso actually manage a 16 inch striper to my skunk. Picasso landing more fish than me, now that's news.

I did a little better today while taking a break from boat work at the club. I managed a nice 17.5 striper from the jetty plus various types of small fish including this yellow perch.

I've read about how good YP taste but its been many years since I've actually tasted one. I know I had them as a child since I do recall going to the eastern shore with my brother and catching boat loads of them but the taste is lost to memory. I've decided to start targeting YP so I can see for myself if they are as good as folks claim. This fish proves that I've got a long way to go before I can claim to be a YP fisherman.

We intended to go out for a sail today but when we got to the club we realized the wind hadn't shown up. Since we weren't going out, I had a little time to test out a casting rig that I set up for the sailboat.

I know casting and sailboats don't mix that well. Hooks around sails, line and rigging can be a challenge to say the least. But, there are times we sail out to Poole's island and there's nobody working the light. How could any self respecting fisherman resist that?

I managed to catch this little guy with my big ole rattletrap on the jetty at the club. It was difficult to to work the lure in close since there was a lot of grass, some of which managed to stick to the fish.

Picasso and me were heading out for an evening of Striper fishing and I arrived early at the marina. I killed the time by fishing off of the jetty and landed this little guy. He was safely release to swim with the fishes!
