JimmyI've heard that ling taste like cod, do you think that's the case?
LikeReply 2 years
Fishin DudeI really don't think so. Ling is a light, sweet, flaky meat, where as Cod is a firmer fish. Both delicious, but different.

I've always loved the iridescent blue hues on freshly caught Black Seabass.

I've been nursing my leg since Surgery a few weeks. I've been unable to stand for an extended time, let alone stand on a rocking boat, so I decided to take part, standing on shore, for opening day of Trout season here in NJ. Its been quite a few years since I've done this, now I remember why. It was a mad house out there. The photo was taken about 1/2 hour before the official opening time, even more people arrived bankside, adding to the crowd. Come 8 am lines in, and it was just a line tangling mess. Guys throwing spinners catching lines that were bobber fishing as well as lines fishing the bottom. A few fish were caught, tangling lines on the way in as well. My patience lasted about an hour, that was all for me. I think I'll wait until everyone goes to work on Monday if I want to catch any Trout. Next plan is to climb my lame butt onto my boat and get her ready for the spring Striper run, maybe even get a Tog trip or two in before the season closes at the end of the month.

CanuckI wish you a speedy recovery as well. I am not a doctor but I understand fishing can cure a lot of ills. I hear you about the crowds and tangled lines. You should have organized them to weave a net and catch all the fish. Did you get back during the week? Any fish left?

Fishin DudeWind was blowing 25- 30 knots today, but I gave it a try anyway. Impossible to float a bait under a bobber. Rod tips with bait on the bottom or free lined were all over the place, even when holding the rod. Rain tomorrow, going to spend some time getting some supplies for my boat, bring on the salty stuff. this freshwater fishing hasn't been working for me at this time.

This was last summer in Manasquan New Jersey. This day was a slow day until my last drop of my buck tail. Felt this monster attacking my buck tail and man this fish fought hard. But after a tough fight I finally had this guy in the boat. Thank you Lord for my fish.

Left yesterday around noon and headed north out of Manasquan inlet to our first location. It was one stop shopping. Drift after drift produced fish of all kinds and sizes. The NJ Seabass regulations allow for 2 Seabass now, so we only kept big ones. The smallest here is 17", nice dinner for my wife and I. Set up the BBQ for dinner , anchored off the beach and watched the Fireworks off Point Pleasant, home by midnight.

Bonito trolled up on a black & red skirt with a ballyhoo. The mate made sashimi out of it right on the boat, delicious.
