On this day 6-09-16 at the Chesapeake Light Tower, the water was calm and the spade fish were everywhere. They were swimming all around my boat, just daring me to try and catch them. I pulled out my homemade secret weapon,
that consisted of 20lb braided line tied to a large barrel swivel. I put a red bead and a green bead on it. I used a strong small hook. I did not use a sinker. I let the large barrel swivel act as my sinker, slowly lowering my deadly rig into the water.(It worked). Spade fish for dinner.

It was a sunny day with a slight chill in the wind. I caught two togs at the 2nd island. I had to keep maneuvering the boat because of the wind, however in the end I was the victor with two togs for dinner😇🐟🐟

Another video from last week. Drum, cobia, and shark. Fish are finally starting to show up in bigger numbers. Weather was awesome, seen nice pods of reds and about 12 cobia swim by with a few hook ups. This is just a short video with some of the catches we had.

Starting my Va. citations, this was during a double hook up today. The other was a cobia my buddy got. Hope to have some video on them. Also had a third hook up during the battle and that one broke off. Bucktail on the dbl, eel with the break off. Also had another cobe break off at the boat when coming in on a sight cast. Water 69* air 85

This is Evan with his first ever spadefish from a couple seasons ago. We had been seeing them around the pilings at the CBBT and not tried for them yet. He baited up a hook with a bit of clam and floated it back while we were still working on flounder. He got the first one on the boat and had a heck of a fight. These little fish are amazing fighters and GREAT table fare!. The ATTACHED VIDEO is from this past summer when we finally went after them specifically. This will be a regular trip or two every year from now on!

I'm going to show you the rig we use to catch this limit of flounder this spring in the attached video! You have got to hit the LIKE button when I even show you the rig right? haha. This simple double jig rig will fill up a cooler in no time. This was our first trip of the year this past spring to the eastern shore of the Chesapeake bay near the Bay Bridge tunnel. Check the video out for the rig, and you can check the other post I have up on here for a video of catching them!

Evan got into a couple HUGE STINGRAYS while we were flounder fishing near the CBBT (Chesapeke Bay Bridge tunnel) These powerful animals were hooked on small jig rigs with a bass size rod and Evan did a masterful job in fighting them. You HAVE to see the video to appreciate the size of these things. Compare them to us for size and remember that they are further away. the fist one was about 8' tip to tip the other over 6'! This is also great training for when you hook that bull red drum or hog rockfish and have to know how fight big critters on light tackle!

My son Evan and I got into spadefish this summer at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. We got our limit very quick and then remembered to turn on the go pro and caught the action to share. We probably got 30 or 40 of them total. These little 2 and 3 pounders are a GREAT fight on light tackle. We used clams and bottom rigs suspended about 10' down. The video link is below.
