When Fishing for Black drum, sea mullet, puppy drum and flounder and a host of other fish that winters in the Outterbanks.
I use small #3 long shank hooks with shrimp (the winter bait of choice) .A pc of. clam fish bite is used to help attract the fish and keep the shrimp from coming off the hook. The fish has to eat the bite to get to the shrimp causing a more aggressive bite. Usually the fish will eat the entire presentation by the time the fish feels the hook your setting it

Water is up. Temp around 70. With overcast clouds. Fat oversized yellow perch. They were hitting #3 gold blade Mepp. Working it back with a stop and go retrieve. They smacked it hard.

JimmyWelcome to Stackfish! Nice catch! Those two fish are huge compared to the ones I normally land, what's your personal best yellow perch?

tommy169We caught a few 2 to 2.5lb yellow perch that were full of roe in late September. They hit on Mepps and Blue fox in-line spinners. We caught them this size for about a week. Then they were gone??The fillets were great eating.

A school of nervous baitfish erupted next to a low tide sandbar with a big swirl just behind. Flipped the #orangefleckedsenko just ahead of the school and fish on! #3 a fat heavy 17incher. Headed back up this weekend.

A day of shallow water light tackle bucktailing yielded this #7.5 fluke for me. Also caught a #5 and a #3.5 (plus a ton of shorts) all on a light spinning outfit more suited for trout. All in less than 7' of water.
