Tough Day
Hit all 3 spots that I scouted and saw fish caught at all 3 on Monday;
Started west to east.
-First spot (my go to spring bluefish and early season fluke spot: plugging produced nothing.
-Second spot: Threw soft plastics (the bait that produced on Monday) produced nothing.
-Third spot (inlet): Got some killies to try some fluking but with a hard incoming tide it wasn’t ideal-went fishless (did see one small fluke caught).
-Went back to the second spot another 30 minutes yielded nothing.
-Returned to the first spot and decided to try for fluke with the left over killies. Rig I was using was a 3-way with a 4 inch dropper for the sinker and a 30” length of #20 leader with a snelled 1/0 octopus hook. First cast resulted in this #5 which I hooked perfectly in the corner of the mouth-thus I was able to land it without be bit off. Few more casts with killies went fishless. Back to plugging, throwing various plugs-once again fishless. Decided to try for fluke again before I left, first cast resulted in a short fluke. Called it quits.

Best Of The Year
Wasn’t sure what to expect after a week of rain and east wind. Water wasn’t as dirty as I had anticipated. Arrived for the last 2.5 hours of the incoming tide and left and hour into the outgoing. Had my first bite in @15-20 minutes and knew it was a good one. The result was this #5.41 24.5” fluke. Bite wasn’t as fast as my last few trips here but I did manage to catch 4 more (although no more keepers). Saw one other keeper caught and a good amount of shorts.

Great early Labor Day outing. Caught 4 nice bass like this 17 inch fattie within 30 minutes of arriving at the sweet spot for the summer. Caught #5 in the next hour and got out while the tide was high enough to avoid the grass and weeds. Senko color didn't matter as long as it was presented as falling off the flora along the bank. This spot is an early morning bite that always ends before 0900. The fish are still there but just stop biting as the sun rises. Another great day on the water.

Again not a monster but good enough at #5 to win the $3 boat pool and $5 side pool.

TerryBThere's side bets in fishing? Ha can I leverage housework for largest catch of the day? ??

SkolmannYou can bet on anything. I've been on boats that had pools for first legal fish, first fish caught on an artificial. My son and have a standing $1 bet every time we fish together...who ever catches the first fish between us (no matter the size). Payment is due immediately.

Two quality fluke of #7.8 and #5.3 out of the four keepers I caught that trip on the Capt. John . All caught on. Spro bucktailing tipped with GULP.

A day of shallow water light tackle bucktailing yielded this #7.5 fluke for me. Also caught a #5 and a #3.5 (plus a ton of shorts) all on a light spinning outfit more suited for trout. All in less than 7' of water.
