Personal Best Smallie on my soon to be home lake
I haven't been out much over the last year and a half as my wife and I are preparing our retirement house for permanent occupation. @tdawg reminded me to check the site again so I thought I'd post the highlight of a very limited fishing season. I was just out cruising the lake in #bos-mon and took some rods just in case. About 1.5 miles from my house in 6-8 feet of water I found a huge school of Smallies suspended over a large flat sand bottom. I hooked the first one with a white whopper plopper #wwp but lost it after a fierce fight. This one took a white rooster tail with a chartreuse blade #wrtcb. The reel broke when I set the hook and I had to hand line her into the boat. She put on quite a show and pulled so hard she cut my finger. But here she is, all 18 inches of her and now she is back in the lake building up for round 2. I have 96 working days left before I retire and can fish full time. You guys will see more posts starting then.

Birthday Fish
Out celebrating my Birthday this morning with my wife and favourite fishing buddy. The fish were frolicking on the surface out in the middle of the lake. I caught this 16" SMB on a #mbcb1m. Tied for best ever. He rolled on the surface within casting distance of #bos-mon just as I finished a retrieve. I cast over there and FISH-ON! Nice fight all the way to the boat. I was happy for his contribution to the festivities.

My sister's first smallie
My sister had never been out on #bos-mon before so today I took her for a cruise on my local lake. It is full of baitfish today and so are the Bass. Lucky for us this guy volunteered to be the first of his kind that she has ever caught. My old reliable #bfsvs5 did the trick. #netcam

Post Net Cam
The Net Cam was deployed but failed to get a good shot. So this 15.5 inch Smallie had to pose in the usual way. Caught on the #bfsvs5 from #bos-mon. The lake is close to an airbase that hosts a remote control aircraft club on Sundays. I was treated to an airshow while fishing. Some very impressive RC flying and no crashes.

Introducing the Canuck Net Cam
Today I set up my SJCAM to get these sort of action shots. This guy volunteered to be the first to get his photo taken as he entered the net. #bos-mon #bfsvs5 #netcam

After returning from the Salt Marsh Trail I launched #bos-mon on my local lake and soon boated this one, her slightly smaller sister and two Chain Pickerel, all on the same lure. The irony is I was after Trout using one of my favorite Trout lures, a Blue Fox Super Vibrax Silver size 5 #bfsvs5 At least now I know that it works on a variety of fish.

Next largest personal best
You know it is a going to be a good day when you catch your first and second largest of the species within a half hour. The water here is so clear that most of the time I can watch the lure all the way back from where it landed. These guys will run a long way to hit it and the effect is like being slammed in the chest. Caught on a Mann's Sexy Shad Baby 1 - #mssb1m #bos-mon

My second cruise onto my new local lake and this 16.5 inch beauty slams my White Whopper Plopper as a much appreciated welcome home to Nova Scotia. Within two hours I had three more of his buddies, the smallest being 13 inches. The others were all caught on Mann's Sexy Shad Baby 1-. #wwp #mssb1m #bos-mon

The real target of the day
Just a little while later I was greeted by this feisty Smallmouth who pounced upon my silver lipless crankbait #slc in about 15 feet of water. #bos-mon The total catch for the day (actually about 5 1/2 hours) was 6 SMB and 2 Chain Pickerel (CP) with another 2 CP released at long distance.

Even after very heavy rain the previous day the water was very clear and he could see this lure from at least 20 feet away. Felt like an open field hit when he grabbed it. Sadly there are no Largemouth Bass in Nova Scotia but there are lots of Smallmouth, Stripers, Trout Salmon and Chain Pickerel. I hope to be posting pics of all of them this summer and fall.

First Resdient Licence Nova Scotia Catch in 31 years!
Jimmy, I promised you a fishing story and pic when I got back home. With all of the moving associated responsibilities it took just over a week to obtain a kitchen pass and get out but it quickly paid off. This lake is just a 2 minute drive from my house and is heavily fished by our standards ( I counted four other boats out there over the morning ). This Chain Pickerel (we call them "Axe handles") greeted my return with enthusiasm. #bos-mon. #berkleyredcrawdad12

CanuckThey get much bigger than 10 lbs and they are ferocious fighters but a total pain to unhook and release. Even small ones can shred your fingers. I have met only two people who have said they like eating them. I don't.

This fatty put up just a huge fight. He felt like a whale on the end of that line. @tdawg and I were using Green pumpkin baby brushogs aboard #bos-mon at our favourite honeyhole. Mostly just deadsticking the hogs but also on very slow retrieve and lift - twitch - drop presentations. The real trick was figuring out where they were schooling up as they kept moving about and pausing amongst the wide variety of creek furnishings present in the area. One prominent and usually highly productive feature was strangely vacant until very late in the day. #gpbh

Out once again at my favourite Honeyhole. This time with @tdawg. After he and I laid a beating on the Largies over two days last week using Senkos and Mann's Baby 1- the fish weren't touching plastic worms anymore so we laid out a banquet of Baby Brushhogs and the feed was on! Not quite as fast and furious as before but since these guys have been educated through our catch and release program it is understandable that it might take a bit longer to coax them into the boat. Then again they might just be camera shy. Fifteen in all, about 10 keepers, last year it took me until March 20th to have this many aboard Bos-Mon. Two months ahead of last year's pace! #bos-mon, #gpbh.

Fairly soon after the first of the day, the largest of the day came aboard #bos-mon , once again on a Red Crawdad Mann's Baby 1 - #redcrawdadmannsbaby1minus . The final total for the day was 18 Bass after three hours of fishing. At least five were keepers. My personal best LMB day so far and the single highest total day's catch for Bos-Mon so far. A great way to start a New Year! Five more days like that and Bos-Mon will have a new annual record. They were hitting the Mann's plus: 4" red Senkos #4rs , 5" Black with Blue Fleck Senkos #5bbs and 5 " White Senkos, #5ws. The largest fish hit the Mann's, the smallest hit the Red Senkos. All were lots of fun to catch.

Out solo on #bos-mon at my favourite honey hole to ring in the New Year. @tdawg had been up there a few days earlier and reported success so I was expecting a good day. The first hour was frustrating. Fish all around me but no bites no matter what I threw at them. Old reliable lures on fast retrieve and slow retrieve and dead stick - nothing. I was starting to think Tdawg had really taught them a lesson they had not forgotten. Then as if someone rang the dinner bell at 0900 this guy slammed a Mann's Baby 1- Red Crawdad #redcrawdadmannsbaby1minus super slow retrieve and came aboard to pose as my first catch of 2017. Welcome aboard you beauty- now get back in there, fatten up and don't tell your buddies anything.

@tdawg and I launched before dawn determined to land the 100th Largemouth in #bos-mon for 2016. Due to the tide we had a four hour window on our favourite spot before we got stranded in there until the next tide rose enough to let us out. We had to navigate in under pre-dawn light and promptly ran aground due to a missing nav marker. We had prepared for that and got off easily enough. More careful navigation and we were on location alone just before the sun rose, two hours before high tide and four hours before we had to leave. One Bass was all we needed to hit the century mark for the year. I had every spinning rod I own pre-rigged with just about every lure that ever caught a Bass. Tdawg had his rods and lures plus a new experimental bass bait that we were both sure would work. He gave me the honour of tossing that out first and I happily watched as it seemed to get hit immediately upon impact with the surface. No luck. Tried a few more times - no luck. Switched to other tried-and-true baits, no luck. Finally around 40 minutes in Tdawg lands one with a dark Senko. One Hundred aboard the Bos-Mon! I quickly switched to a similar bait and landed 101, about two hours later this guy, 102, was welcomed aboard, once again with a dark Senko. Tdawg closed the morning with our 103rd of the year caught on a Mepps Spinner. Thanks Tdawg for a memorable New Years Eve. Notch up another success for the Coalition Bass Program.

CanuckThanks. It was a fun morning out there. I also passed the 600 hour mark for total on-water time (195 this year) in Bos-Mon so it was a momentous cruise. All in all a good year. 112 game fish plus a few dozen panfish. The most productive year by far in the four years I've owned her.

This has been a very good year for #bos-mon. My wife and I and our guests have landed almost 100 Largemouth Bass (39 for us and 60 for our guests) in 31 fishing cruises. Not bad for our third year in this area and fifth year of Bass fishing. Today @tdawg and I were out pursuing the century mark at our favourite honeyhole. He did his part to reach it but I failed to keep up so the tally for the year now stands at 99 with only one Saturday left to go. Stay tuned! I might make it. BTW - shorts count in my book because I throw them all back anyway. Happy Holidays!

Out with @stikmann aboard #bos-mon. Our target for the day was stripers. First stop, no joy. Second stop, same thing so it was off to my old favourite honey hole to see if the Largemouth were starting to hang out there. They are but they weren't biting except for two shorts. My buddy landed this Snakehead - the first ever hauled aboard Bos-Mon. I just ate my share of him for dinner. Nice - tasty, firm fillet. I'll let @stikmann tell you what he caught him on because I can't remember.
