Just killing some time off at the lake. I took this one back to the father in law. He will make a nice meal out of it.

The rapala strikes again
Have to give credit to the shad scented spray I shot on the rapala for enticing a catfish to bite.
I'll take whatever is biting as long as I don't get skunked!!

TerryBI heard there was a certain way to hold them without getting bit. You seem to have your hand in his mouth. Any tips?
LikeReply 2 years
Buffie85Their teeth aren't very big at all but it will scrape you a bit. If you reach far enough into their mouth you'll be fine as long as they don't clamp down. Or you can play it safe and hold them by the gill plates

JimmyThey put up a great fight! Any word on the Shad on the Susky? I'm going to tear myself away from work for some Shad fishing once they get thick.
LikeReply 2 years
Buffie85At the dam, the gizzard shad are very very thick and the hickories and Americans are there in decent numbers. Not exactly sure how good it is but I occasionally look down and see people unhooking them

JimmyGood to know, I'm hoping to do some shad fishing next week.

This monster catfish was caught 12-09-13 AT Chickahominy State Park, near Williamsburg, Virginia. I used a 8/0 Gamakatsu circle hook and a 2 inch piece of eel.. I used a 11 foot rod. I tied a piece of 30lb test line on my three way swivel, to use as a shock leader. I came off of the swivel again with an 8 inch piece of 30lb test line, tied directly to my hook.
All you have to do is to set your drag, and place your rod into a surf rod holder and wait. (They will bite your line).

Second catch of the day. @canuck was busy trying to catch something on his line when he noticed our third line had something on it. He got me to real the catch in. This one really liked the bait we were using, nearly swallowed the whole thing. We were using @tdawg's recipe of chicken mummified with garlic powder and salt as bait.

JimmyWelcome to Stackfish! It looks like you've got your dad's knack for catching!
LikeReply 2 years
This is my first real catch. He didn't really put up much of a fight, he kind of just gave up as soon as I hooked him. After I got him out of the water, he started thrashing around, and flicked his blood all over the place as my father, @canuck was trying to get the hook out of his face. A Blue Catfish - of course.

Hot day but sitting under the bridge catching some nice cats is not a bad day when absolutely nothing else is biting. She loves riding in the boat and reeling em in. I love the F/D time. Great day!
