PB Crappie
Coming in at 13 inches this is my personal best.

My buddy @claydavis83 caught a 13.5 incher on the lake a few weeks ago, so hopefully this PB won’t stand for long!

A Crappie Day
I didn’t find much action today at Loch Raven, one crappie for the day. At least it was a nice one.

Last Monday I returned to my fishing hole. The fish patterns seem to be changing. The crappie were about 4 to 5 feet from the bank instead of in the middle of the pond. The past two times the crappie were biting the jigs faster than minnows but on this trip ithey didn't care anything about my jig but they were eating up the minnows. There were smaller crappie biting but the bass were getting more active. That will be the target on the following trips to come.

One of my local spots has been on fire all of April. On this particular day I spent about 8 hours fishing by myself. I kept about 40 crappie and 2 bass. By the time I got hone that day I didn't feel like taking a better picture. I wished I had because this doesn't do it justice.

A day well spent back home. I didn't bother to keep count. They were all caught on small live minnows about 3 ft deep. I put them on ice and brought them back to Clayton. Now they are deep fryer ready.

Out with McCotter's Lake Anna Guide Service for a day of fun in the middle of January. We fished the hot side in the morning then quickly broke for lunch and a transfer to the cold side for the afternoon. Our last stop on the hot side was to catch some Crappie to complete the second step of the "Lake Anna Grand Slam", a Crappie, a Largemouth Bass, a Wiper (Hybrid White Bass & Striper) and a Striper. This is my first U.S. Crappie. I don't normally fish for them but I figured since there was a title at stake, why not?

Canuck"Wiper" is just what they call them at Lake Anna. Bass, Striped Hybrid will suffice. I'll use that when I post tomorrow.

Canuck"little panfishing" indeed - Though I should talk. I haven't targeted Crappie down here yet. I should give it a try before I head back north.
LikeReply 2 years
JimmyYeah, it's a whole different world. Bass and even striped bass just clobber anything in site when the water is warm. When the water gets cold, picking off Crappie or flying for trout takes fishing to a whole different level of finesse.
