Decent day on the river today. Cliff, Jim, and I boated 40 total fluke but only landed 2 keepers. Here is my 19.5 inch, 3 pound fluke. It was my first of 21 fluke landed today. A couple of blues also caught.

First Fluke Trip 5/25
Saturday, Cliff Jim and I hit up the Navasink River for some fluke. Boat Totaled 25 fluke with 3 total keepers. Also landed 3 bluefish. All caught on gulp. Most fish was caught before the wind picked up. Once it started blowing 15-20 SSE, the bite died pretty bad.

First Fluke Trip Of 2019
My son Jason and I did our annual day after fluke season opens fluke trip on the Navesink River. Conditions were not ideal as the wind kept changing direction on us until it finally decided to come out of the south at 10-15. We combined to catch 17 fluke with each of us getting one keeper. Jason also got a cocktail bluefish. Everything on live bait, never once touched did we tie on a bucktail or use GULP. Only saw three other fluke caught. Fluke were spitting up grass shrimp. Fluke were warm to the touch and most were chunky. Upon filleting the bigger of the two keepers, we discovered it’s stomach full of grass shrimp and two small blue claw crabs.

SkolmannYes, we were there Saturday. We were in one of the 16’ Carolina Skiffs with a 25 HP. We’d love to do it again but my son’s and my schedules are jammed. We clear our schedule months ahead just for that Saturday after the opener. We’re actually thinking of renting the 19’ center console with the 90 HP from Schupps next time so we have more options and greater range as to where to fish as I have a few spots in the upper Shrewsbury that produced fluke for me when I had my boat. How did you do on Saturday ?

Navesink River 6/20
Cliff, Cliff, and I went out on the Navesink River. It was a beautiful day on the river for sure. We ended up with 43 total fluke on the trip with 4 keepers ranging from 18" to 20.5" with "little Cliff" netting the big fish of the day at 20.5" and 3.84#. All the fish were caught on gulp. On another note, Cliff's Dad caught the biggest sea robin I ever seen at 17 inches and 2.2 pounds. While it was a fluke trip, that had to take the place of the fluke picture for this story. Question for all of you ( since I am a newbie to this site), can you add multiple species to your catch? Tight lines!

SkolmannShould have entered that sea robin in the Fisherman’s dream boat contest as sea robins are eligible this year.

Navesink River 6/9
Cliff, Jim, and I hit up the Navesink River again Saturday. We had a good morning bite, and then the bite died and turned into a fish here and there. Think the wind vs tide situation limited our good drifts which could have been the issue. Once the tide changed, the bite picked up a little bit, but not what we are used to in the river. We boated a total of 31 fluke with 5 of them being keepers from 18"-21".

Navesink River 5/30
Cliff, Cliff, and I went and rented a boat to fish the Navesink River for the day. It was a foggy morning and we started off with a decent bite in the AM with the incoming tide. Within maybe two hours or so, the bite died down, BIG TIME. It was slow fishing for a good 3 hours and then once the tide changed the fishing picked back up. Between the three of us, we landed 41 fluke with 5 keepers. Also in the mix were a bluefish and some sea robin. Sorry, no fish pictures, as by the time I got home to clean them, the gnats were so bad I just wanted to get done as quick as I could. Was able to snap a picture of the fog we had to deal with.

First Limits Of 2018
My son Jason and I rented a skiff, we each got our limit to 20”s on the Navesink today. Caught 22 total with 7 being keeper size but only kept our legal limit of 3 each. Caught them on GULP, bucktails, spearing and live bait.

Opening Day Fluke Season
Love this time of year when fluke season arrives. We had a decent day on the river yesterday. Slow at times, but all in all an awesome day. We had a SW wind that picked up later in the day. Most of our damage was done in the morning with the wind making it difficult in the afternoon. Cliff, Jim, and I landed 24 total fluke with 7 of them being keepers. Jim also landed two pretty decent sea robin as well. I landed my personal best (in the picture), a 22 incher that weighed 3.75 pounds.

Skolmann @snick4444, Wednesday I have to work in the morning so I’m either going to do a late afternoon fluke trip on a party boat or hit the spot I’ve been fishing on the Manasquan River for blues/fluke

Took my son's boat out yesterday for the first time this year. Since I had to be back at the dock no later than 11AM to get showered, dressed etc to attend a wedding later that afternoon-we decided to fish the river which also helped us get out of the wind a little. I caught the only three fish (only one keeper size) of the day (although we both missed several bites) this being the first. All were released and and all fell for a white 4" GULP swimming mullet.
